Tuc Hong: An illustrious career, causing musician Lam Phuong to tear up his green card at the airport, determined not to return to the US

Tuc Hong is the most versatile female artist in Saigon as both a singer and a dramatist... Her success has a great contribution from her ex-husband - musician Lam Phuong. However, the love affair of that talented couple did not have a fulfilling ending.

Who is Tui Hong?

Artist Tuc Hong was born in 1940 in Thu Dau Mot, his real name is Truong Anh Tuyet. At the age of 11, she moved with her family to Saigon because her two older brothers had to work for a car company here. Tuc Hong's family lives on Phan Dinh Phung Street, central Saigon.

At that time, the Tuc Hong family was close to Thanh Thuy, so they were close like sisters. She and Thanh Thuy often hid their families from riding bicycles to ask for pictures of artists and then auditioning for actors.

On their first day on stage, Tuc Hong and Thanh Thuy were just backup dancers for famous artists. Later, musician Lam Phuong often came to the house to play with her brother, so he got to know her and taught her to sing the songs he composed.

Despite her brother's objections, she was supported by her sisters-in-law, so Tui Hong initially recorded and performed Lam Phuong's love songs, then switched to acting in spoken word plays. In 1958, she joined the Diamond Troupe of the Diamond People's Party.

In 1959, Tui Hong and Lam Phuong got married. During that time, she often collaborated with Shen Thuy Hang on television.

In 1968, with the encouragement of Lam Phuong, Tuc Hong left the Diamond troupe and formed the theater band Live.

For the play, she diligently composed and added the pseudonym Tu Ha. Initially, Tuc Hong acted on television, but to make a mark, she invested in hiring film directors to make a number of dramas shot outside, combined with studio processing.

Since then, Tuc Hong's Living Theater Band has grown and competed in contrast to the Diamond Troupe, Shen Thuy Hang Troupe. Later, Tuc Hong and her family settled in Virginia, then moved to Texas (USA).

In the US, Tui Hong continues to achieve certain successes. In 1980, she opened a concert at the discotheque, and at the same time conducted filming and tape recording activities.

The Living Theatre Band was also formed again with new faces, performing comedies on television and tape.

The talented love affair with Lam Phuong and the painful end after nearly half a century

Tuc Hong is a big fan of Lam Phuong's talent, so after a period of working together, the 2 teachers and students fell in love and immersed themselves in the yeast of love.

Musician Lam Phuong has a huge position in Tuc Hong's career and life. He taught singing and instilled her passion for theater to follow the profession from the earliest days. She said:

"Musician Lam Phuong is a classmate of my stepbrother who often comes to the house to play. He saw that I liked to sing, so he trained my voice and instructed me to sing the songs he composed.

When I started on stage, I sang songs by musician Lam Phuong and participated in short plays."

When Tuc Hong stepped on stage, she had great support from her husband Lam Phuong. He gave love songs composed by himself to Tuy Hong to make background music at the performances, making a deep impression on the audience. She said:

"The harmonious combination of Lam Phuong's music and the play "Living Tuc Hong" highlighted my play. On the contrary, the drama I acted also pushed the song Lam Phuong composed to the audience faster."

It is known that Lam Phuong - Tuc Hong got married in 1959 with everyone's blessing. After returning to the same house, Lam Phuong - Tuc Hong's career reached its peak.

Success and fame brought a material life to Lam Phuong - Tuc Hong, but after that, he and his wife left everything behind to leave. In the West, Lam Fang had to work hard to have money to support his wife and children. Shedding the glow of the famous musician's name, he did manual work such as cleaning floors, grinding, turning, cleaning,... to make money.

Life was hard, but his passion for music still burned within him. Therefore, when his life was stable, musician Lam Phuong rented a restaurant as a musical theater for his friends to meet, so that Tuc Hong and he had the opportunity to relive art. However, this was also the time when he had to come to terms with the pain of separation.

In fact, neither musician Lam Phuong nor Ms. Tui Hong once officially talked about the reason for the breakdown of their marriage. However, many people say that the marriage was broken because Su Hong was no longer faithful to her husband. She "hugged to another boat" leaving inconsolable pain in the musician's heart. In a mood of anguish and resentment, musician Lam Phuong released a masterpiece called Mistake, with sour words: "I mistakenly brought you here. Let the night often hear the sigh / It is better for life to rest in the ground. To return to the primitive cry / Rather than to carry a life of anticipation. I mistakenly brought you here. For the soul breaks day by day. With mysterious lyric music. Guiding people's hearts to passion. Put me in misery today..."

In 1981, musician Lam Phuong and playwright Tuc Hong officially divorced. So after more than 40 years together, they are no longer together. At that time, musician Lam Phuong fled the pain by leaving the United States for Paris.

At the Music Box show, singer Elvis Phuong made the audience stir when revealing the story of the late musician Lam Phuong who tore up his green card as soon as he landed at the French airport, deciding not to return to the US.

"At that time, I asked Mr. Lam Phuong: 'Why don't you stay in the US, go to France to live?'

Mr. Lam Fang revealed: "It's very sad to say it, Fang. You and Tui Hong in America broke up. I was so sad that I decided to leave the United States to live in France so I wouldn't see Tui Hong again."

Later, when asked about the relationship between Lam Phuong music and Tuc Hong theater, the artist shared:

"Musician Lam Phuong has always been someone I respect. Although our charm has long since dried up, we are no longer attached to each other as husband and wife, but I always appreciate his guidance and support.

Thanks to it, I firmly entered the artistic path and created success for the Living theater band, so that later abroad, the audience still favored the old glory that I had."

What is it like to live in the U.S. now?

After divorcing Lam Phuong, Tuc Hong lived peacefully with her children and grandchildren in the United States. Tui Hong continued her theater career overseas. She said: "In my heart, I never miss the stage, I miss the audience.

I know, the audience can forget the artist, the stage can get rid of the actor, but the artist, who has brought karma into him, can never leave the stage or the audience.

During a singing session, if something goes wrong, I am also very distressed. The audience has an apologetic pity that makes me even more tormented.

So the next show I want to be better than the last, so as not to disappoint the audience. In my 50 years in the arts, I've never wanted to stop acting."
