The film "Death in the Air" continues to lead the Vietnamese box office, exceeding the 200 billion VND mark in revenue, affirming the strong attraction of Vietnamese cinema with a rare hijacking theme and a dramatic script.
The movie "Death in the Air" directed by Ham Tran officially exceeded 200 billion VND in revenue on the afternoon of October 4, according to the latest data from Box Office Vietnam. On October 4 alone, "Death in the Air" earned 3.3 billion VND, selling more than 35,000 tickets on nearly 2,900 screenings nationwide.
Meanwhile, competitors at the same time such as "Sister Nga Em Nang" (992 million VND/day), "My Hand Holds a Star" (679 million VND) or "Avatar: The Flow of Water" 3D version (615 million VND) are far behind. This success shows that domestic audiences are particularly interested in Vietnamese films that exploit action-crime themes, combining historical elements and modern cinematic techniques.
The content of "Death in the Air" revolves around the cheeky robbery of a group of hijackers led by Long (Thai Hoa), along with accomplices Ti (Vo Dien Gia Huy), Suu (Bao Dinh), and Tien (Ray Nguyen). They plotted to hijack a civilian plane in order to escape abroad. However, the crew fought tenaciously to protect the passengers and keep the flight safe.
The film is inspired by the 1978 plane hijacking in Da Nang, which is considered one of the events that shocked Vietnam's aviation industry. The entire setting mostly takes place in the cockpit and cockpit, creating a suffocating and tense atmosphere. The rushing pace of the film, tight script and uniform acting help "Death in the Air" receive many compliments from experts.
With the production direction of the People's Police Cinema, the film is highly documentary, reflecting the fight against aviation crime in the post-war era. The crew restored the DC-4 prototype in a ratio of nearly 1:1, using old equipment of the Vietnamese aviation industry in the 1970s.
The costumes, costumes and tones of the film are delicately processed to evoke a sense of nostalgia, and at the same time clearly show the heroic and brave spirit of the aviation security forces. As a result, the work is not only a thrilling action film, but also a tribute to the silent soldiers in the people's police service.
"Death in the Air" gathers a cast of talented actors such as Thai Hoa, Kaity Nguyen, and many promising young faces. After only one week of premiere, the film has reached 100 billion VND, becoming the Vietnamese film with the fastest revenue growth rate in the second half of the year. Many experts predict that, before leaving the theater, the film can reach 250 billion VND, becoming a new monument of domestic cinema.
After the premiere, the film crew has continuously organized nationwide cinetours, interacting with fans. Direct interaction helps increase the media effect and creates a strong wave of support on social networks. However, in recent days, when many new films have been released, the sales of "Death in the Air" have shown signs of slowing down â something that is common with works that have been in theaters for a long time.
However, it is undeniable that "Death in the Air" has marked a new milestone for Vietnamese cinema, when successfully exploiting a difficult topic, both historical and attractive enough to the mass audience. With impressive revenue and artistic value and national spirit, the film deserves to be considered the biggest box office phenomenon in 2025.
