After reaching the 700 billion mark, the movie "Red Rain" announced that it will leave theaters in the near future. Many people have questioned how the movie's revenue will be handled. In response to this issue, the crew has spoken up.
On September 25, Lieutenant Colonel, Meritorious Artist Dang Thai Huyen, also the director of the movie "Red Rain", announced that the movie will leave theaters from September 28, after reaching 8 million viewers nationwide. The female director expressed her happiness when calling this success a "beautiful dream" of the People's Army Cinema, and affirmed that the crew had completed the mission with all their efforts and enthusiasm.
"More than 8 million viewers shed tears, sharing the joys and sorrows of the stories and the fates of the characters. Some people returned to the theater many times, which was a great happiness for us. When the work was released and received and loved, that was the most wonderful thing for a filmmaker," Dang Thai Huyen shared.
Released in theaters on August 22, Red Rain quickly became an unprecedented box office phenomenon in the genre of political and historical films. Inspired by the 81-day event of protecting Quang Tri Citadel, the film not only reminds us of history but also creates a strong spread of patriotism and the sacrifice of previous generations.
Within just one month, the film has continuously set box office records. On the morning of September 25, the film recorded 7,752 tickets sold in 1,482 screenings, earning more than 617 million VND in the day. Total revenue after nearly a month of release has reached 699.3 billion VND, officially setting a record for the highest-grossing Vietnamese film in box office history.
Notably, some theaters even opened screenings from 6:30 am to serve the large audience demand. This is rare for a political film, showing the special appeal of the work.
Not only stopping at the record number, Red Rain also left its mark by the way the audience sympathized and shared. Many analytical articles and profound comments from viewers were considered by director Dang Thai Huyen as "precious gifts" for the crew.
"It would be sad if the film was released in theaters without any attention. Whether positive or negative, all feedback is valuable. The audience is the one who continues the journey of Red Rain to the future," the female director emphasized.
The resounding success of Red Rain has also made many audiences interested in using the box office revenue. According to the producer, Military Cinema is an administrative unit under the General Department of Politics (Ministry of National Defense). Film production costs are covered from the defense budget, along with the coordination and large contributions of human and material resources from many units inside and outside the military.
Therefore, the revenue cannot be converted or compared by conventional economic measures. The film release is approved by superiors, in coordination with professional distribution units. Theater revenue is divided according to regulations: a part for the theater system, a part for communication and distribution costs, and the rest belongs to the producer.
Due to its special nature, all revenue will be managed, used and settled in accordance with the regulations of the State and the Ministry of National Defense, including the responsibility to pay to the budget. This also affirms the spirit of transparency in financial management of a film project associated with political tasks.
