The People's Court of Quang Tri province opened a trial for defendant Nguyen Quoc Quan (33 years old), residing in Khe Sanh town, Huong Hoa district (Quang Tri) and his accomplices on the morning of August 28.

On the morning of August 28, the People's Court of Quang Tri province opened the first instance criminal trial of Nguyen Quoc Quan (also known as Quan Idol, 33 years old, residing in Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province) and 8 accomplices.

The trial is scheduled to take place over two days, August 28-29, with Judge Phan Hong Phuoc as the presiding judge. Security was tight at the trial with the presence of dozens of police officers. Since morning, the defendants have been escorted to the court one by one.

Quan was tried on 7 charges: illegal transportation of d.rugs, organizing illegal use of d.rugs, illegal possession of d.rugs, illegal detention, threatening to k.ill, extortion, and usury in civil transactions.

In the case involving Quan "Idol", there are 8 other defendants prosecuted with many crimes.

Specifically, Le Van Son (born in 1990), Pham Cong Dinh (born in 1998) and Tran Le Duy Thinh (born in 1997), all residing in Cam Lo district, Quang Tri province, were prosecuted for the crime of illegally transporting prohibited substances.

Nguyen Phi Cuong (born in 1990), residing in Huong Hoa district, was prosecuted for the crimes of Illegal detention, Organizing illegal use of banned substances and Illegal possession of banned substances.

Hoang Thai Manh (born 1992), residing in Huong Hoa district, was prosecuted for the crimes of Illegal detention and Extortion.

Dinh Van Thai (born 1990) and Tran Hoai Thanh (born 1992), both residing in Huong Hoa district, were prosecuted for the crime of Extortion.

Tran Thi Le (born 1991), residing in Dong Ha city, was prosecuted for the crime of Loan sharking in civil transactions.

The case involving Quan "Idol" and his accomplices had 25 people participating in the trial as witnesses and people with related rights and obligations.

Charged with many crimes, some of which carry very high penalties, at the first instance trial on the morning of August 28, defendant Nguyen Quoc Quan still showed a defiant attitude, even smiling in court.

A large number of people also attended this trial. Quang Tri Provincial Police arranged nearly 200 officers and soldiers to participate in protecting and maintaining security and order. The Trial Council also arranged an additional room for people to watch on the screen.

According to information from Dan Tri newspaper, at the e.nd of August 2023, Quang Tri Provincial Police arrested Nguyen Quoc Quan and his accomplices to investigate the act of illegal detention.

During the investigation process to expand the case, the investigation agency continued to initiate criminal proceedings and prosecute Quan and other accomplices related to many other crimes.

The investigation agency said that Quan was the mastermind in the case of transporting 10kg of banned substances, and was arrested by Cam Lo District Police in coordination with Quang Tri Provincial Police in February 2023.

Quan was the mastermind and leader of the m.urder threats that occurred in Ho Xa town, Vinh Linh district (Quang Tri). Because he suspected that Mr. Thai Van Trung (Vinh Linh district police, Quang Tri) was asking for information about his illegal and criminal acts, Quan threatened to k.ill Mr. Trung.

Before his arrest, despite his young age, Quan "Idol" was known as a powerful figure in the mountainous district of Quang Tri province. He was said to own many luxury cars with beautiful license plates.

According to records, Nguyen Quoc Quan was convicted four times for theft in 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2015.

After completing his prison sentence, from 2021 to 2023, Quan hired, persuaded, directed, and managed many juniors to commit acts of illegal detention, illegal transportation of prohibited substances, loan sharking in civil transactions, and extortion of property.
