Carolyn Warmus is likened to a princess because she was born and raised in an upper-class family.
Her father is a millionaire in the insurance business in Birmingham, Michigan (USA). This is the affluent suburb of the Detroit area. Carolyn lived in luxury, lacked nothing, but she did not enjoy complete family happiness because her parents divorced when she was only 8 years old.
In 1983, while a sophomore at the University of Michigan, Carolyn dated an assistant faculty member, Paul Laven, for several months. But in December 1983, he ended his relationship with her and began dating another student, who became engaged to this person. Two weeks before the couple's wedding in July 1984, Carolyn received a restraining order from approaching them. Records from the Oakland County Courthouse say the couple feared Carolyn would disrupt their wedding ceremony or reception.
According to the complaint, Carolyn obtained the couple's phone number on April 6 of that year through "underground records from a Michigan Bell employee. Four days later, she arbitrarily broke into the couple's apartment." and the police had to intervene.
After the incident, Carolyn left Michigan in 1985, where she began dating a married bartender living in New Jersey. After the brief affair ended, Carolyn contacted private detective Vincent Parco, a Manhattan private investigator, and asked him to investigate information about her lover. But after that, this love also went nowhere.
After graduating with a bachelor's degree in psychology, Carolyn moved to New York City. In 1987, beautiful, charming Carolyn received her Master's degree in elementary education from Columbia University and was accepted to teach at the prestigious Greenville Elementary School in Scarsdale, New York.
While teaching at Greenville Elementary School, Carolyn met a teacher named Paul Solomon (41 years old). He lives with his wife and daughter in the Scarsdale Ridge mansion in the town of Greenburgh about 30k north of New York City. Paul is of Lebanese descent, with dark skin, dark hair and brown eyes. He always attracted others by his calm appearance and poise. And of course, he also did not escape Carolyn's "blue eyes".
Mr. Paul's wife, Betty Jeanne (40 years old), works as a financial manager for a large company. They have a daughter named Kristan who is 14 years old. Although their marriage was not happy, they still lived together.
After a period of secret dating, Paul realized his mistake and determined to end the affair to return to his wife and children. However, Carolyn had a lot of love for Paul, so it was not easy to let him go.
One afternoon, Paul and his wife rested at home. At 13:37, the phone in the kitchen rang, Paul picked it up and then suddenly felt guilty when he realized the caller was Carolyn.
The phone call lasted 55 minutes, Carolyn sulking, blaming Paul and expressing disappointment when Paul forgot her birthday a week before. After talking for a while, the two met for dinner at Treetops restaurant at 19:30, at the Holliday Inn on Central Avenue, where they used to secretly date.
Paul lied to his wife that he was going to go bowling with his friends in the evening. That afternoon, he intentionally damaged his Toyota Celica and drove Betty's Dodge out of the house to make sure his wife wouldn't go anywhere.
Paul drove to Brunswick, where he often played bowling, but instead of focusing on the game, he just said hello, played for a while and then left.
At 6:30 p.m., Paul drove to the Holliday Inn as scheduled with Carolyn. Around 19:45, Carolyn appeared, sitting down across from Paul. The two talked for a long time before having dinner together. Two hours later, the two of them stood up. Carolyn told Paul, "You don't deserve to be happy." Carolyn said goodbye to Paul and drove back south of Manhattan.
After dating his lover, Paul returned home at 23:40. But as soon as he stepped foot in the door, he witnessed a horrifying scene. Betty Jeanne lay motionless on the floor, covered in blood. Paul quickly called the police.
According to police observations, Mrs. Betty was shot. None of the neighbors heard gunfire, there was no sign of breaking into the house or being forced to, all objects and possessions in the house were still intact. The only suspicious sign is that the phone is disconnected. Police found a black wool glove near the corpse.
The crime scene is quite strange, leading the investigators to suspect that this may be Paul's play to kill his wife. However, when they interrogated Paul and examined the alibi from Paul's testimony, all were true. Therefore, the police were forced to release him.
After several months of investigation, police suspicions shifted from Paul to Carolyn. One of the reasons she was tracked was evidence of her relentless pursuit of Paul after his wife's death.
In June 1989, 5 months after Betty's death, Paul ended his relationship with Carolyn. But she still wanted to keep the love so she secretly followed Paul to Puerto Rico, where he went on vacation with his new girlfriend, Barbara Ballor. Carolyn pretends to be a police officer, calling the Ballor family to get the Ballor family to dissuade their daughter from having an affair with Paul. An even more questionable detail in the investigation is that in early January 1989, shortly before the murder, Carolyn purchased from Detective Vincent Parco a 25mm automatic pistol with a silencer.
This is the gun a friend gave to Vincent Parco. Subsequent police investigation led Carolyn to bow her head to plead guilty. Accordingly, she arranged a date with Paul, when he left the house and killed his wife, then he was alone at home.
Nearly two years after Betty was murdered, Carolyn Warmus' trial took place on February 7, 1991. The court eventually sentenced Carolyn to 25 years in prison, not counting the conviction for illegal possession of a firearm. In 2019, she was pardoned after serving 27 years of her sentence.
