The holiday of 30/4 - 1/5 this year witnessed the exciting competition of two popular Vietnamese films "L. Flip Face 8: Sunny Arms" by Ly Hai and "Detective Kien: Headless Case" by Victor Vu.
Both works have achieved sales of over 100 billion VND, attracting a large number of audiences to the theater. However, each film brings a completely different experience - on the one hand, it is full of family and emotions; the other side is suspenseful, mysterious and full of detectives.
Following the popular film franchise over the years, "L. Flip 8: Sunny Arms" is still loyal to Ly Hai's close and humane storytelling strengths. The film tells the journey of Tam (Doan The Vinh), a 17-year-old bo.y who is passionate about music but is forbidden by his father (Long Handsome) because of traditional prejudice. Family conflicts, the desire for freedom, and simmering wounds make the film an emotional "touchpoint" for many viewers.
Many viewers shed tears after leaving the theater. An audience member shared: "I don't understand why I cry so much. Not because the script is too heartbreaking, but because it feels like being dragged back to an old memory called 'Ba'". Another viewer said he was looking forward to a hugging scene between father and son - a small detail but enough to make emotions soar.
However, the film is not immune to mixed opinions. Many viewers think that the film script is not new, the direction is long and the climax is not reasonable. "L. Flip 8 is long, draggy, many redundant character lines. The plot is easy to predict, the emotions at the end of the film are more tiring than touching," a viewer commented frankly. There is an opinion that the title of the film "L. Face" is no longer suitable for the content of family affection, lacking attractive "twists" like the previous parts.
Meanwhile, "Detective Kien: Headless Case" is Victor Vu's remarkable comeback to the detective investigation genre - the genre that once helped him affirm his name. The story revolves around the mysterious disappearance of a gir.l, forcing Hai Man (Dinh Ngoc Diep) to ask for help from detective Kien (Quoc Huy). The film is highly appreciated thanks to the careful investment in images, the setting of poetic Vietnamese villages and the attractive pace of the film.
The audience rated this as a work worth watching: "It's been a long time since there was a Vietnamese film that made me want to discuss it after watching it. Many scenes are very cinematic, deep and emotional." In addition to the crime-solving factor, the film also cleverly interweaves human love, friendship and internal struggles in each character.
The cast received many compliments for acting, especially Quoc Huy, Dinh Ngoc Diep and People's Artist My Uyen. The audience evaluates that each role is built well, creating a clear highlight in the storyline.
Despite being highly appreciated, the film is still not really perfect. Some viewers think that the dialogue at the beginning of the film is a bit awkward, the way of leading is still a little forceful. Although the setting is beautiful, it has not been deeply exploited into the life and psychology of the characters as expected from director Victor Vu.
In terms of commerce, both "L. Flip 8" and "Detective Kien" were successful when they reached the hundred billion mark during the holiday season. However, each film serves a different audience file.
"L.Flip 8" scores points on emotions and family themes - suitable for those who love gentle and intimate movies. Meanwhile, "Detective Kien" attracts viewers in its crime-solving, cinematic and dramatic elements - suitable for audiences who like to explore, analyze and gentle but delicate "twists".
Previously, director Ly Hai said that the film was being 'bad'. Specifically, the father of 4 said that his work is receiving negative reviews from the time of launch to the present, and at the same time reminded the audience to love and understand Ly Hai to help.
"Over the years, Mr. Hai has maintained ethics and purity with his profession and audience. Because Mr. Hai did not harm anyone, the dirty seeder (the creator and spread of content on the Internet) ran rampant, attackin.g him and L. 8. Please help the audience - who has understood Mr. Hai for many years," the male director team expressed.
Previously, Ly Hai once affirmed that for more than 30 years in the profession, he did not use tricks but chose to go up with his own feet.
