The Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City administratively fined Nam Thu for blatantly holding a press conference without permission

Actor Nam Thu officially received a fine from the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City, after holding a press conference explaining the noise that occurred around being accused of being a 3rd person, but she and her crew were careless without asking for permission.

Ho Chi Minh City said that it had sanctioned an administrative violation against Nam Thu Entertainment Co., Ltd. for the act of holding a press conference but did not notify the competent state management agency in writing in advance as prescribed. The administrative fine is 2 million VND.

According to the City Department of Information and Communications, on August 5, 2024, Nam Thu Entertainment Co., Ltd. held a "Media Meeting" to provide and officially exchange information related to actor Nam Thu.

The "Media Meeting" was attended by a number of press reporters and representatives of websites. On August 9, 2024, the Department of Information and Communications invited Nam Thu Entertainment Co., Ltd. to work on organizing a "Media Meeting".

Through the meeting, the Department of Information and Communications announced the regulations related to the organization of the press conference and determined according to the content and form of implementation, the "Media Meeting" that Nam Thu Entertainment Co., Ltd. held on August 5, 2024 was a press conference but did not notify the competent state management agency in writing.

Therefore, pursuant to Clause 1, Article 11 of the Government's Decree No. 119/2020/ND-CP dated October 7, 2020 stipulating penalties for administrative violations in press and publishing activities; amended and supplemented by Decree No. 14/2022/ND-CP dated January 27, 2022, the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City has made a decision to sanction Nam Thu Entertainment Co., Ltd.

Previously, on August 5, Nam Thu Entertainment Co., Ltd. held a "Media Meeting" to provide and officially exchange information related to actor Nam Thu in recent times. The "Media Meeting" was attended by a number of press reporters and representatives of websites.

Actor Nam Thu is currently attracting the attention of many audiences, related to some problems that occur in this actress's life. It is known that after the comedian's media meeting, some people who were said to be involved in the incident had mixed responses to the information that Nam Thu had given.

At a press conference to provide information on socio-economic issues in Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of August 8, Ms. Pham Dac My Tran, Head of the Press Department - Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City, further clarified issues related to the media meeting of actor Nam Thu that took place recently.

Ms. Tran said that according to the provisions of Clause 1, Clause 3, Article 41 of the 2016 Press Law, agencies, organizations and individuals have the right to organize press conferences to announce, explain and answer issues related to such agencies, organizations and individuals.

However, the organization of the press conference must be notified to the functional agencies and state management agencies in charge of the press at least 24 hours before the press conference. Ms. Tran affirmed that the case of agencies, organizations and citizens holding press conferences without asking for permission is a violation of regulations. When detecting violations during the event, the authorities have the right to stop the event in accordance with the provisions of the Press Law and have the authority to sanction administrative violations.

"All cases of organizing international conferences, seminars, and press conferences need to be licensed by the competent authority before taking place. Business units, leasing event venues also need to understand the regulations, need to ask the organizer whether they have a license or not," Ms. Tran emphasized.
