VTV24 recently reported on the situation of homeless people sitting around on major streets in Hanoi at night begging for food and money from sponsors. These groups take advantage of cold weather days to practice.
Specifically, recently, the 24h Motion news broadcast with the title "Recurrence of fake homeless situation" has attracted special attention from public opinion. The station's reporter was present at the corner of Hang Dau street, Hanoi around midnight, the weather was bitterly cold. According to observations, many groups of people claiming to be homeless were lying and sitting on the sidewalks, waiting for the charity group to come here to get gifts.
LX, Honda, Lead... motorbikes are hidden behind electric booths. When there is no more room, they leave them on the sidewalk.
The reporter encountered the familiar face of a woman with leg pain who appeared in a VTV report last year. However, when she saw a group of motorbikes coming to deliver charity gifts, she quickly jumped up and ran to get the gifts.
"- Miss, do you have children?
- She has no children. All of you here know it all. "You just had an accident, 3 wounds on your head" - the 68-year-old woman pointed to the wound when anyone came to ask.
In another corner, there was an old man sitting and eating porridge. The reporter recognized him and asked: "You look very familiar with him, it seems like he was on TV last year, right? That day I saw him even show his ID card." By the way, do you have a house in Hanoi?".
The old man replied that it was a relative's house, and that last year he was "wrongly arrested".
At a charity gift distribution event of a volunteer group in Hanoi, in addition to gifts such as blankets, warm clothes, and medicine, there were also many food rations for homeless people on cold winter nights. However, people in the volunteer group always have to say: "Dear, please eat porridge."
Holding a box of porridge, but after the charity group left, the group of homeless people left their bags of food scattered on the sidewalk. The reporter held an intact lunch box placed on the electric booth, inside the food was still hot, including pumpkin, spring rolls, fried rice.
Not only rice and porridge were left behind, old clothes were also thrown into piles after being donated. They only accept bread, milk, bottled water, blankets, and new clothes, because these items can be collected and sold to grocery stores for profit.
To be able to work as a homeless person, the most important factor is appearance. The older you are, the more miserable you look, the more gifts you have. That's why fake homeless people here often expose each other when their "colleagues" receive more gifts than them.
At 2 o'clock at night, after arguing, scolding and fighting with each other, they got back in the car and went home with heavy gift bags. The sidewalk of the Capital is now deserted, without a single person.
"Just pretending to be poor and pretending to be miserable, no one looks at it and doesn't feel sorry for it. If 10 people give 10 portions of rice, will she eat all 10 portions? Everyone loves the old lady. Just looks like that, it's not miserable, kids," one person said. the woman told the reporter.
To verify, the reporter secretly followed a homeless person after filling a cart of gifts. Winding through a few streets, this old lady's destination was a 3-story house, over 100 square meters wide, located on To Hien Thanh street. According to local people, the value of this house is up to tens of billions of dong.
Editor Son Lam said in the report that most of the fake homeless people were taken to the ward police headquarters at this time last year and signed a commitment not to reoffend. But it may not be easy for them to give up their money-making job. Because if you are good at asking and choosing valuable gifts, a person's income per night will be approximately a million dong.
The fact that ordinary people can afford to live and even have spacious houses in Hanoi but still beg and take advantage of the charity of sponsors makes netizens extremely angry.
