Ryan's World: Half-Vietnamese YouTuber breaks toy boxes and earns the most money in the world
When talking about child stars who earn "huge" income from YouTube, many people cannot help but remember Ryan Kaji (born in 2011) - owner of the YouTube channel Ryan's World. For those who don't know, Ryan is a Vietnamese-Japanese hybrid. While "accidentally" filming a video to post on the YouTube platform, the boy received the attention of many people. In 2020, Ryan earned 30 million USD through his profession of "unboxing" and reviewing toys, becoming the highest-earning YouTuber in the world.
The main content of the clips Ryan makes is "unboxing", or in other words, reviewing and evaluating different types of toys. And Ryan himself did not expect that after a long process of building and developing, this YouTube channel would bring him a huge source of income.
Ryan Kaji's father is a Japanese architect named Shion Guan, and his mother is a Vietnamese middle school teacher named Loan. Below him are two twin sisters. The whole family currently lives in Texas, USA.
According to Ryan's father, the fate that led them to make videos on YouTube was to share the boy's daily life with relatives: "My family lives in the US, while relatives on both sides live in Japan and Japan respectively. Vietnam. When Ryan was born, people couldn't visit often, so I recorded videos and created my own YouTube channel to make it easier for them to follow."
Then, when his 3-year-old son watched other children's toy unboxing videos and asked if he could make similar videos, his first "homemade" video was born in March. 2015 with toy opening content.
What Ryan's parents never thought was that this video had garnered 17.2 million views after just a few days of posting. Then, in July 2015, a video review of a box of more than 100 toys from Disney's Cars series received nearly 935 million views within a few days of being posted, and to date the video has garnered more than 1 billion views.
Along with their son's popularity comes trouble and worry from the parents when Ryan's parents discovered that under the posted videos there were always messages with strange, unclear symbols. Strange messages appeared more and more, causing them to have sleepless nights and wonder: "Is Ryan being followed by some dark organization?".
That sadness was only relieved until one day, Ryan's father saw his son typing on the keyboard excitedly while watching videos on YouTube. He suddenly realized that the messages with strange symbols were most likely typed by illiterate children watching the same videos as his son.
However, aware that fame has both bad and good sides, Ryan's parents feared that their son was not ready enough to accept the above things, so they talked and asked him for his opinion on whether to continue. do YouTube or not. But the boy still insisted: "I still like to do it."
To accompany their son, Ryan's parents gave up their own jobs and founded the film production company Sunlight Entertainment with 30 employees responsible for filming videos, post-editing and uploading Ryan's videos to YouTube. On average, 30 videos are uploaded to the channel every week. "This is an amazing result," said Ryan's father.
In 2017, even though Ryan Kaji was only 5 years old, he was ranked 7th in the world's top YouTubers with an income of up to 250 billion VND. In 2020, Forbes Magazine announced that Ryan topped the ranking of the highest-paid YouTubers in 2020 when he earned 30 million USD (nearly 700 billion VND) from YouTube, breaking his own record in 2019 ( 26 million USD) and 2018 (22 million USD). This is not the first time the 11-year-old boy has appeared on this list.
To date, his Ryan's World channel has attracted more than 37.2 million subscribers and more than 57 billion views. According to The Guardian newspaper (UK), in 2022, Ryan Kaji's most famous video is "Huge Eggs Surprise Toys Challenge" with more than 2 billion views. This is also one of the 60 most viewed videos ever on YouTube.
With his popularity, Ryan Kaji does not stop at producing videos on the YouTube platform but also enters the children's toy manufacturing industry. Now, making money on YouTube is probably just "extra" when this boy also earns an additional $200 million from Ryan's World branded toys and clothes, including pajamas in collaboration with Marks & Spencer. . Besides, Ryan also signed a contract worth millions of dollars for his own television series on Nickelodeon.
Accordingly, because he is so young, Ryan's income is directly managed by the financial management company. The boy's parents said: "The purpose of handing Ryan's account to a professional management company is not only for the boy himself but also for Ryan's future children."
Ryan's parents said their son still hopes to continue being a YouTuber until he is 26 years old. Then he will study to become a game designer to develop his favorite games: "I hope to be able to share those games with everyone through my own YouTube channel."
