Richie D ICY is a game programmer in Australia, he suddenly became a phenomenon in the Vietnamese Underground world with the explosion "Rolling". Recently, he continued to make headlines when he enrolled in "Rap Viet" season 3.
Richie D ICY is a young Vietnamese rapper based in Melbourne (Australia). He participated in the 3rd season of "Rap Viet" with his cousin SMO - Leader of 95G and before being noticed for rap music, he used to be a programmer.
He first became known for the single "Rolling", a remix of the song "Mask Off" by American rapper Future, in which he collaborated with AXTROBOY. The appearance of Richie D. ICY has caught the attention of the Vietnamese Underground.
With the explosion from the song "Rolling", Richie D. ICY quickly made his name in the Vietnamese music industry. In a rap market dominated by Melodic and Trap, he brought a breath of fresh air with drill music, a socially heavy genre.
Even a famous rapper like B Ray, commented on Richie D. ICY's debut music: "This guy has a really good rap voice. And the dances are equally impressive."
Recently, Richie D. ICY released the song "Naked" featuring rappers Gill and Blacka. This song has entered the Top Trending list on YouTube, showing his "hit-making" potential and the ability of Vietnamese rap music.
Some veteran rappers said that Richie D. ICY's strengths lie in his good flow mindset and "born to rap" voice. However, his weakness may lie in the lyrics that are not really impressive or have enough depth to make the audience admire.
In a quick interview, Richie D. ICY had this to say about choosing drill music: "I was heavily influenced by Datmaniac in the early stages. After a while, I didn't feel like I fit into the themes of life. After that, I tried myself with other genres like Trap, Melody but it didn't suit that. Coming to Drill music, I naturally felt very suitable."
Richie D. ICY participated in the casting of "Rap Viet" season 3 and received high expectations. One viewer commented that: "This is a factor that can explode after Rap Viet season 3 if it reaches round 1". With catchy music with high viral potential, Richie D. ICY could become a new rap star.
At the Conquest round, he performed the song "Tam" (original music: Soul of Stone) with the support of the powerful singer Anh Tu. The performance was a combination of drill music and Richie D ICY's impressive, bold rap voice, he successfully convinced coach Andree Right Hand to choose.
Speaking a little about drill music, drill is a subgenre of hip hop music that originated in the streets of Chicago, in the early 2010s. It is soundly similar to trap music and lyrically similar to gangsta rap.
Drill music became mainstream around 2012 following the success of rappers such as Chief Keef, Lil Durk, Lil Reese, Fredo Santana, G Herbo, Lil Bibby, King Louie and later King Von, who had many local fans and a significant internet presence along with NSX Young Chop. This was followed by media attention and the signing of Drill artists to major record labels.
A variation of Drill music, UK Drill, has been around in London, particularly in the Brixton borough, since 2012. UK Drill emerged in mid-2012 and has influenced other genres, such as Brooklyn Drill (which reappeared in Brooklyn in the late 2010s).
In Richie D ICY's personal opinion, drill music is not exclusive to a group of people that anyone can use, it is just a tool to express the emotions of the composer, and the most important thing is still the words and lyrics they put into the song.
An interesting thing about Richie, he himself does not know if he is the first person to bring this new music to Vietnam or not, but Richie's friends and listeners give him a funny nickname "Driller".
Returning to his test in the first round, although not "fully selected", Richie also impressed the judges, coaches and spectators. Perhaps the music he pursues is quite new, so it still needs more time to integrate.
In the opening episode of the Head-to-Head round, Richie D ICY and SMO â a cousin duo who did not meet, worked well together and rocked the Vietnamese Rap stage with the song "NÃ". Accordingly, the brothers' performance is considered as a performance of singers or groups in front of the audience, not like a "fierce" confrontation.
Because both Richie and SMO complement each other, making the song more perfect but still expressing each other's own qualities. However, rapper SMO is slightly better than Richie, so he won this round. It is understandable because SMO has had many successes before coming to this program with the 95G team.
As for Richie, although he is emerging, he is proving his potential and talent in the Vietnamese rap scene. With his distinct style and charismatic music, he could become a famous rapper in the not too distant future. He fought in the "8 Bar" round (Rescue Match) and was selected to go ahead by coach Andree Right Hand.
In the near future, Richie D ICY will play against the candidates of the remaining 3 teams to win tickets to the final round. Specifically, his group is Group B including: Richie (team Andree), Huynh Cong Hieu (team B Ray), GUNG0CAY (team BigDaddy) and Yuno BigBoi (team Thai VG). The current situation in this group is being evaluated by many people, Richie's forward rate is quite low, because both Cong Hieu and Yuno are "monsters" of this season. There are even predictions that Huynh Cong Hieu will be the champion.
In the latest episode of "Rap Viet" season 3 that aired last night, August 19, Rhyder won Group E with Liu Grace, Mikelodic and Tez waiting for the other opponent to come out.
SMO - 95G LEADER: Having raped diss WOWY, seeing his teammates as opponents, what will be the outcome? Hoa Tuyết15:11:43 18/08/2023SMO is known as the leader of the group 95G, one of the rappers who created a wave of trap music and breathed life into HipHop Vietnam. Recently, he attracted attention when appearing at Rap Viet season 3.
