Hoai Linh's film plummets in theaters, with poor revenue after 3 weeks of release

In its third week in theaters, the movie Get Rich With Ghosts - starring Hoai Linh and Tuan Tran - still tops the box office rankings of Box Office Vietnam (an independent box office monitoring unit).

However, the film's performance has somewhat declined compared to the beginning despite not facing many competitors. The box office is also showing signs of gloom as newly released projects all have low revenue.

Statistics from Box Office Vietnam last week showed that the weekend revenue of Get Rich With Ghosts only reached over 10.7 billion VND, down about 48% compared to last week (20.2 billion VND).

The film sold 122,671 out of 5,811 screenings with a fairly low occupancy rate, with each screening selling an average of only 21-22 tickets. The film's coverage on social networks is also not as strong as before.

This comes from many reasons, including the fact that the North was heavily affected by storm YAGI, which somewhat affected the overall box office situation.

Getting Rich With Ghosts has earned more than 114 billion VND since its release, ranking among the highest-grossing Vietnamese films this year. However, with the current situation, the film is unlikely to reach the 150 billion VND mark as predicted. The film may stop at 130-140 billion VND before officially withdrawing from theaters.

Coming in second place on the chart is the comedy film Anh trai ve moi tam tai from Korea with 3.4 billion VND. The film tells the story of a smart but hot-tempered inspector with an impressive arrest rate. When he moves to Jeju Island, the character must cooperate with a famous con man to destroy a dangerous gang.

The work has a simple content, familiar motif but still attracts attention because the audience is fond of comedy films. Similar to Handsome guy feels wrong (also from Korea) before, the project did not have explosive revenue but was enough to enter the top 3 of Box Office Vietnam.

Coming in behind Anh trai vu ve tam tai is the horror film Khong noi dai vien (USA) with over 2 billion VND. The project attracted attention because it marked the return of director James Watkins and the participation of actor James McAvoy.

The film is also highly appreciated despite being a remake of the Danish horror film of the same name. The content tells the terrifying experience of a family on a trip. They accidentally meet and spend a vacation with another family and gradually discover the scary secrets that are being covered up.

No Evil Saying has a pretty interesting plot. However, the revenue of more than 2 billion VND shows that the film has not really attracted audiences in the Vietnamese market, its achievement is much lower than that of previously released horror projects.

Last week, Hai Muoi surprised everyone by winning many categories at the 2024 Golden Kite Awards even though it was still showing in theaters, creating a strong debate on social networks.

Unfortunately, the award results did not help the film's revenue improve. The work fell from second place last week to fourth place on the Box Office Vietnam chart with more than 1.7 billion VND, down 52% (3.5 billion VND).

The last position in the top 5 belongs to the animated film Bao thu di chuyen chu (1.5 billion VND), showing that animated films still have their own audience even though they do not receive strong investment in promotion.

The horror film Ghost starring Viet Huong dropped sharply, falling to the last position in the top 10 with over 545 million VND, bringing the total revenue to over 126 billion VND. This is understandable because the film has been shown for a long time and is no longer strong enough to compete at the box office.

Meanwhile, international projects such as the comedy Ghost Story, the horror film Longlesg: Heretic Tragedy (USA) or Ghost Case (Ireland)... did not attract audiences in Vietnam, with revenue not exceeding the one billion VND mark.
