Besides the Quang Tri battlefield, the film Red Rain also has some short scenes depicting the 1972 Paris Conference - the silent battle of the resistance war against America.
Among them are two characters inspired by Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh - Hero of Labor, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Vice President, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam.
The two characters are Mrs. Van (played by actress Dinh Thuy Ha) from the Democratic Republic of Vietnam delegation and a representative of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of South Vietnam delegation (played by actress Yen Nhi).
However, contrary to expectations, the two roles above were met with mixed opinions. Most of the audience commented that the two actresses had not yet shown the special spirit and temperament of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Binh. Some people even wondered why in Red Rain there were two characters with the same image of her.
Director Lieutenant Colonel Dang Thai Huyen said the characters and stories in the film Red Rain are fictional, inspired by reality.
"When choosing the two actresses, I chose them based on my idol, Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh. She is a good diplomat, her demeanor and temperament are wonderful and I hope my two actors can carry some of that temperament. People can talk about whether the actors are like the 'original' or not, but I affirm that the film does not have any character who is Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh.
Whether it is Red Rain or later other films recreating the negotiations in Paris, we will never find a character like Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh. She is unique and one of a kind. The characters who can only show a part of that temperament or spirit are already successful" - director Dang Thai Huyen said.
Playing one of the two female representatives at the negotiating table in the film Red Rain, actress Dinh Thuy Ha said she was under a lot of pressure: "It was a terrible pressure, a huge comparison. I tried my best to do it," she shared. According to the actress, any woman who sits in a representative position like Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh is no longer "normal". "From temperament to behavior, words, appearance... everything is extraordinary," Dinh Thuy Ha emphasized.
Actress Thuy Ha is a familiar face to Vietnamese television audiences. She once attracted attention when she played the role of Hanh in the movie Ben Khong Chong by director Luu Trong Ninh.
Since that success, Thuy Ha has frequently appeared on the small screen with roles associated with the image of a hard-working, resilient rural woman. Her Asian face and natural acting style have helped her deeply engrave the image of a rural woman in the public's mind.
In addition, the actress also left her mark with the role of nurse Ngan in the TV series Battle Diary, adapted from the novel Bald Be by writer Pham Viet Long.
Chau Ha Yen Nhi has been active in showbiz for over 20 years. She was one of the brightest models of Hoa Hoc Duong in the early 2000s. Possessing outstanding beauty, Yen Nhi quickly became a sought-after face for advertising shows, regularly appearing on magazine covers, calendars and many major media campaigns.
In 2000, she won the Miss Photo title, then turned to acting. On the small screen, Yen Nhi left her mark through many TV series such as Invisible Abyss, Cruel Passion, Charming Woman, If There Is Tomorrow... In the film industry, she also appeared in many blockbusters such as Super Thief, Co Can Nha Nam Nghe Nang Mua...
Director Dang Thai Huyen said the crew put 200% of their effort into making the film, so they have no regrets. The actors filmed in cold winter weather. Before filming, they lived together, practiced shooting and martial arts skills. The artists playing the soldiers of Squad 1 all lost weight to match the image of soldiers in the "famine" period. Actor Phuong Nam (as Captain Ta) lost 15 kg. Dinh Khang (as Tu) also lost 11 kg and learned to swim quickly to prepare for the role. Actress Ha Anh fainted while standing in the cold rain and artificial rain to film the scene where the ferrywoman Hong hugged her backpack and waited for her lover to return.
The male lead Do Nhat Hoang (Cuong) had a fever for four days, causing the schedule to be disrupted. The director and producer filmed some scenes without the main character in advance while waiting for the actor to recover.
The film is currently receiving attention from the audience, surpassing the revenue of 100 billion VND after three days. On average, Red Rain reaches more than 4,600 screenings nationwide each day, many times more than the films currently showing in theaters. This is the 10th domestic film since the beginning of the year to surpass the 100 billion VND mark.
