Ba Nghi said that dubbing has not been an official profession so far, so it is sad that the industry is less respected in the arts.
The salary is therefore also unlimited, there are movies that are paid well, but most of them are just average, or meager. In particular, there are a few cases where the film has been dubbed but the employer pays the salary late.
In real life, the voice actor (DVLT) Ba Nghi looks serious, with white hair and a simple appearance. During an hour of conversation, the actor shared his thoughts on the profession of "voice makeup" - a job he has worked with for the past 30 years.
Thanks to her talent, along with a well-trained process at the School of Dramatic Arts 2 (now the University of Theater and Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City), Ba Nghi quickly became the first-generation film dub artist. since the early 1990s.
This job has brought him joy, besides a lot of pressure, even bitterness. From the first thought, this was considered an economic end, but then it stuck with him for many years.
In the dubbing world, Ba Nghi is famous for her warm, thick, masculine voice... so she's assigned roles with special personalities. He has contributed his voice to classic films such as: Journey to the West (as Sa Tang), Tieu arrogant Gypsy, Thien Long Bat Bo, Te Cong, Family is No. Trum ... The most prominent role is Cao Cao in the New Three Kingdoms.
For him, dubbing is more than just mouth-matching. Career seekers must meet the following requirements: standard pronunciation, clarity, ability to control breathing and cognitive level of actors.
In particular, the third factor is important because in order to create an impressive role, the actor needs to learn the character's personality, story, and psychological transition of the role.
"For example, a teacher, a motorbike taxi driver... each role is different. A good voiceover must know how to immerse themselves in their lives, delicate enough to feel the word expressing joy. happy, happy, sad, indignant ... or cry and laugh, all emotions in voice ", Ba Nghi shared.
Dubbing foreign films also requires some skills due to regional characteristics, different voices and expressions. If TVB movies with Cantonese pronunciation are fast and continuous, the tone of Japanese and Korean movies is usually gentle and slow. This requires the actor to be flexible and meticulous in the performance.

"This profession, if you know how to save money, you can live well, but to be rich, buy a house, a house, a car, is impossible. Having a dub film, holding the paid money in your hand, you feel sorry for yourself, choking because you are too poor. For many years, I was always in a situation of shortfall before and after. At the end of the year, I borrowed money to shop and spend for my family, and after Tet, I would plow again to pay the debt, "said Ba Nghi.
Once burdened with "rice and money" because of the scene of a wife and 3 children, Ba Nghi was sometimes depressed and wanted to quit her job because her income was not enough to live on. However, he always finds a reason to be attached to the profession. The actor is always proud of himself as well as his colleagues who have helped many movies and hit works become classics in the minds of many generations of audiences.
Thanks to persistently sticking to this job for 3 decades, Ba Nghi now has a stable life, can take care of her family, and her children study well. During all these years, despite many choices and turns, he stayed and worked hard to repay the favor.
At the age of 61, Ba Nghi is still diligent in her profession every day. A few years ago, he and his family moved to Binh Duong city. Every time there is a new movie, he drives a motorbike and walks a few dozen kilometers to the studio.
Every day, Ba Nghi has a habit of waking up early in the morning to run into Ho Chi Minh City, finishing work when it is late at night. His wife and children once hoped that he would soon retire at home to rest for fear of dangerous driving on the road. But they also went along because they understood that it was a profession, the career that Ba Nghi had followed half of his life.
Life is not too rich, but with Ba Nghi, so it is peaceful. For him, every day being able to work, meet friends and colleagues and a happy home is very satisfying.
"Life is impermanent, some sick and sick people have to rely on their children and grandchildren, some people unfortunately die early like the case of my colleague - DVLT The Thanh last year. Looking back, I can still go to the studio. work, earn income, have fun with family... So what else do you want", Ba Nghi shared.
Ba Nghi and his wife have 3 children, of which the eldest daughter is married, the youngest has just graduated from university. His happiest thing is that his children grow up, mature and have never relied on their parents. Ba Nghi's second son also followed in his father's footsteps with a job as a voiceover technician.
The feature of dubbing is that there is no formal training school, but mainly vocational transmission. The predecessors know, guide the latter and so on through the years.
Ba Nghi currently cherishes a plan to open teaching classes for future generations. He hopes to help young people in the future with the hope of creating a generation that can inherit his glory and his colleagues in the heyday.
The actor thinks that when he can no longer speak, he will retire from the profession. If he has the strength, he hopes to contribute to the profession, also to bring comfort in his old age.
"This profession has the peculiarity that there is no age limit, just keep your voice and sound good, you can still do it for a long time. I also try to improve my strength so that I can go on for another 5-10 years. How much In the past year, I have considered the studio as my home, my colleagues as my family. Things that are so dear can't be abandoned," said Ba Nghi.
