Artist Kim Xuyen was born in 1945 in Hanoi and started her artistic activities at Hanoi Opera House in 1962. With a happy face, she made her mark with many roles on stage and in television.

Kim Xuyen mainly plays villains and humorous roles, leaving a deep impression on the audience. Her plays include: Hanoi Winter '46, Flowers and Weeds, Painting of the Harvest, Frontline Calling, Celebrating the Grim Days... Although she is very passionate and loves art, in the first 5 years of her career, the artist was only allowed to try her hand at supporting roles, small public roles on stage, causing her to be confused and intend to give up.

Unexpectedly, when Kim Xuyen rehearsed the role of a guerrilla girl in "Hanoi in 1946", the composer forgot to bring the script only she remembered the words of the script. Thanks to that time, perhaps the female artist began to be noticed and known by people in sharp roles. Especially in the role of Ms. Tam in the movie "Gamble" has made a breakthrough in Vietnam's film industry.

The "bold" detail is the scene where artist Kim Xuyen wears a double-strapped shirt on film. This image has become a classic scene that is hard for anyone to forget. According to Kim Xuyen, an artist does not necessarily succeed when playing the main roles, but it is important that people know how to turn their weaknesses into their strengths. That's why, she didn't succeed in leading roles but impressed in villains.

Because he forgot the type of role, artist Ha Thanh could not play the gentle characters of the main roles. In the movie, but in real life, Kim Xuyen is very different. In 1965, Kim Xuyen married her current husband, a football player, when she was just 20 years old. The veteran artist met her husband during an exchange with the football team by the artillery. Two years after their marriage, Kim Xuyen gave birth to her first daughter. Staying at home for 3 months, the artist had to send her baby to perform because at that time the troupe lacked many actors. In 1979, she gave birth to her 2nd child, exactly one year after her first. When pregnant, the Ha Thanh-born artist had to "tighten his belt" in the literal sense of the word. She thinks that in order to follow a profession, be a mother and a wife, it is necessary to know how to balance between family and career. Fortunately, her husband and children understood and sympathized with her work.

Although the life of an artist was not as happy as people think, her family was always happy. Kim Xuyen now has three children and now his two eldest daughters have settled in Germany, while his younger son is a sports commentator.

After retirement, Kim Xuyen thought she would be able to live comfortably with her family, but her husband suddenly suffered a stroke. So for more than a decade, the artist has been taking care of her partner by herself, from meals to taking him to physical therapy or daily exercise. Still, she was happy to be content with what she had.

In addition to taking care of her sick husband, the Ha Thanh-born artist still has a heart for the profession. The proof is that when many directors and producers called to offer to act, taking advantage of when he was well, she accepted small roles, shooting during the day. Before going on tour, the artist will cook food, and now ask her daughter-in-law to take care of rice and water for him.

Seeing his wife going to work, Bui Quang Quy did not agree much, so he often asked, "Going forever? So far from doing what?" She told him to stay home and wait, and he would be back soon. Once filming in Ha Tay, after 12 p.m., she still took the car home because she knew her husband was waiting.

At the age of 78, artist Kim Xuyen is living peacefully with her children and grandchildren. She lives with her son and his wife in Hang Vai Street. Before the Covid-19 epidemic, she went to Germany to visit her daughter once a year, but for about 3 years now, she felt weaker so she did not go anymore but waited for her children to visit.

The actress of the film "Village of Wives" said that the person who brought her to comedy was director Khai Hung. From the roles of "Meet the Weekend", she knew how to act more gracefully. Together with colleagues such as Van Hiep, Trinh Thinh, Pham Bang,... They have created a respectable generation of artists who wholeheartedly love art.
