More than 10 years ago, Japan had a profession with a salary of 120 million a month called cleaning up lonely deaths. But rarely does anyone dare to try this!
According to statistics, Japan is a country with an alarming rate of population aging. In 1990, there were about 4 million elderly people living alone without children or close friends.
This number increased rapidly, reaching 7 million people in 2010 and it is expected that by 2035, the number of lonely elderly people in the country of cherry blossoms will exceed 8.5 million.
The aging population makes Japan face many risks such as lack of experienced young workers, the cost of social security policies is also increasing. One of the most concerning issues is caring for lonely elderly people who live alone, without relatives.
They maintained their lives until the day they no longer had enough strength and suddenly died. But because they lived alone, no one knew that they had passed away. The body of the lonely person will at some point stink, affecting the surrounding families and people start to notice, then notify the authorities to step in.
And the question is, how those sprawling rooms will be cleaned and who will be brave to do it. The answer is a team of site cleaners called " Tokushu sen-ou in," better known as the lonely death cleaner.
The task of these sanitation workers is to clean up the place where someone died and return the scene as new. The peculiarities of the work are exposed to the stench and large volumes of pathogenic bacteria behind the deformed corpses, so they must prepare protective clothing, hats or respirators against poison gas.
Notably, because the work easily affects people around, while cleaning, cleaning workers are not allowed to open windows or air conditioners. On hot summer days, they endure the terrible torture of a working environment that is no different from hell on earth.
The problem is exacerbated in cases where the victim dies in the bathtub. Their hair will cling to the walls of the tub, each body part deformed, swelling black. In the process of working, some employees also see the words "help me" clearly written on walls or windows, before stopping breathing.
Many unbearable cleanup workers burst into tears, even vomited and left immediately. Stubborn stains cling to the floor and carpet surface, causing cleaning workers to replace floor pads. The work is both under psychological pressure and consumes a lot of energy.
During cleaning, if valuables belonging to the deceased are found, workers will carefully wrap them up to return them to their relatives (if any). After completing the work, they will light incense and place a bouquet of flowers on the floor as a way to commemorate the deceased.
Akira Fujita, the team leader at a company that cleans up "lonely deaths" in Tokyo, said they often take on the task of dealing with stinking bodies. The most recent was the case of a man, who was determined to have died for 4 months but was not detected.
According to documents, Fujita identified the man as 54, divorced and an engineer. It was difficult for the cleaning company to determine the cause of his death, even though the room was filled with prescription drugs.
Standing in front of the scene of the house where someone died, Fujita's team did not frown or comment at all, just focused on working conscientiously. The first thing they removed was the mattress covered in brown residue and creatures crawling at the move. It will then be packed into a vacuum bag and transferred to the truck.
Next, the cleaning crew walked into the small bathroom covered in black mold on the walls, sink and toilet. Dirt covered the house, the cleaning team had to resort to strong detergents.
It is known that the landlord of the deceased man will have to pay an amount of $ 2,250 (about VND 54.8 million) for the cleaning process. According to Reuters, usually such service companies will charge from 81,000 yen to 341,000 yen / implementation (about 13-54 million VND). As a result, cleaning staff can earn from 100-120 million VND/month, but very few people participate.
In Japan, people who live alone when they die will only be discovered if their mailboxes are full or their rent has been unpaid for a long time. Occasionally, neighbors will smell strange odors coming from the apartment.
Although every country has cases of elderly people dying alone, there is hardly a place like Japan. Because up to 5 million people here choose to live without a spouse or children.
Because the rate of "lonely elderly" in the land of the Rising Sun is quite high, the "lonely corpse" cleaning industry has also developed. A series of companies providing this service were born.
Insurance companies began offering insurance packages that covered the cost of cleaning the apartment and offsetting the landlord's losses. Therefore, cleaning workers are paid more attractive incomes.
Data in 2008 showed that this job had a salary of 500,000 to 600,000 yen (about 100 to 120 million / month). Attractive salaries cause the number of people entering the "industry" to increase.
However, at the moment, this level is only half, ranging from 250,000 to 300,000 yen / month, so many people have given up their psychologically obsessive and exhausting jobs.
