Vietnamese music lovers have just received sad news when musician Mac The Nhan - author of the immortal song "Cho Chua Long Em" - passed away at the age of 86 on August 8.
His passing leaves a huge void in the hearts of music lovers, but his legacy of more than 200 works will live forever. His life and career is the story of an artist who devoted himself completely to art, with gentle but haunting love songs that touched the hearts of many generations of audiences.
From Phan Cong Thiet to Mac The Nhan: A life of contributing ink to life
Musician Mac The Nhan, whose real name is Phan Cong Thiet, was born in 1939. The name "Mac The Nhan" was explained by him to mean "contributing a drop of ink to life", expressing his desire to be attached to and fully devoted to art. In addition, he also used other pen names such as Nha Uyen and Phan Tran in some of his compositions.
His love for music blossomed very early. At the age of 13, Mac The Nhan participated in school cultural activities, and at the age of 17, he began to study music systematically with famous names such as musicians Tham Oanh, Hung Lan, Nguyen Cau, Nguyen Quy Lam, Xuan Binh. In the early years of his career, he also collaborated with the Xuan Binh string band to perform on the radio, gradually affirming his talent in the music industry.
His first composition was the song "Homeland Moon" released in 1958. This was the beginning of a tireless creative journey that lasted for decades. Quiet life and the last notes
Mac The Nhan's life not only has the halo of art but also has ups and downs. In May 2020, he unfortunately suffered a stroke and had to be hospitalized at Becamex Hospital - Binh Duong.
Faced with his difficult situation, his colleagues and friends organized a fundraising concert called "Cho Phai Long Em" to support his treatment costs. This meaningful concert featured famous artists such as Elvis Phuong, Hoang Lang and Bao Thu, showing the appreciation that the artist community had for him.
The image of Mac The Nhan when he was alive was that of a humble artist, always living his life with his love for music. He passed away, leaving behind an elegant, profound career and immortal songs that many generations still sing.
