Angola has recently become a destination for many Asians to go abroad to work as farmers. Not only Vietnamese people, but also prominently the "African team", some Chinese groups have also opened farms and agricultural stores here.
Continuously developing agriculture in Angola, the African team (with Quang Linh as a member) is turning rocky lands into green farms, producing many high-yield agricultural products, notably rice, carrots, onions, cabbage, kohlrabi....
Little by little, high-value items are gradually helping people escape poverty.
Recently, on his Youtube channel, Cong Giap excitedly showed off his bumper kohlrabi harvest in a village in Angola.
Accordingly, 5 baskets of kohlrabi were harvested, totaling 122 kg. Because of the suitable soil, each tuber was large, weighing from 1-2 kg. Traders bought it at 1,000 Kz/kg. Thus, the amount earned was 122,000 Kz, equivalent to about 3.5 million VND.
It is known that the African team will sell half to the Chinese and half to Vietnamese restaurants. The Chinese in Angola really like agricultural products grown by the Vietnamese, especially in the dry season when vegetables become scarce and expensive. Meanwhile, the kohlrabi leaves are kept for cooking for the people in the village. It is worth mentioning that there is still a large amount of kohlrabi that has not been harvested and the revenue is expected to be even larger.
The village chief was extremely excited: "Every day, people are more and more motivated to work. If we continue like this, we will soon develop and have food and clothes."
Notably, to help people have more opportunities to expand farming, Cong Giap and Vietnamese philanthropists together bought an 80-hectare piece of land to give to people, with a sum of up to 24,000 USD (about more than 600 million VND).
For the Angolan people, this was a huge amount of money that they had never dreamed of. Therefore, the village chief and the priest of Maiala village decided to give a wild boar as a thank you gift to Cong Giap and the Vietnamese people.
"All my life I have been going to the forest to pick vegetables, now I have land to cultivate, in this world there is no one as good as you. Compared to what you and the Vietnamese people have done and are doing, this gift is nothing. Our people will never forget your kindness. We are indeed still facing many difficulties, our meals are not enough, but we certainly have the heart," the priest said emotionally.
In response to the African people's kindness, Cong Giap decided not to accept it because the village still had many difficulties. "The Vietnamese people gave it to Maiala village and did not need to receive anything in return. They gave the future to the people and future generations. I only hope that the people will cherish and develop from that land."
"The only gift that philanthropists want to receive is for people to study hard and cultivate diligently on the land to have a more prosperous life," Cong Giap shared.
Not only kohlrabi, in Africa, jicama is also hunted. Quang Linh vlog once said: "Normally, jicama takes about 6 months to harvest, but here we harvest and sell gradually. This batch of jicama has been planted for 3 months, the tubers have grown big.
It's the rainy season in Angola now, I let my brothers dig 7 rows in advance to sell at Chinese agricultural stores first. In 2-3 months it will be the dry season, when the supply is scarce, I will harvest massively to sell at a good price."
Appreciating the above success, the Angolan Minister of Agriculture personally visited and encouraged Quang Linh's team.
Accordingly, the Angolan Minister of Agriculture came to support the African team by buying 5 kg of rice, 1 kg costs 1,000 Kz (nearly 30,000 VND/kg) and trying the famous Vietnamese sugarcane juice. In addition, the Minister said that he would support more fertilizers, new varieties, machinery, and provide more land for the team to expand the production area.
"The most difficult thing now is milling the rice, but as you can see, the rice grains are very white and beautiful," said the Minister.
In mid-April, Linh Phillip's Viet Phi farm began harvesting rice. In addition to the Vietnamese brothers and the main Angolan workers of the farm, many people from the neighboring Bota village also came to help with the harvest.
"Planting rice the first year was really hard, because the land was difficult to prepare, and there wasn't much mud in the fields. To be able to produce a yield of 1.5 tons in the first crop was already a proud achievement for us. This year's rainy season was wonderful," Linh Phillip said emotionally.
Harvesting about 40 bags of rice, the farm owner planned to keep 6 bags for storage, and hire someone to mill the rest into rice, dividing it among more than a dozen people who have been eating and sleeping with the rice plants all this time.
With the seeds saved, they hope to have enough to expand cultivation in some neighboring villages, increasing the area of the Viet Phi farm by 300%. All is to have more golden Vietnamese rice fields on African land, moving towards self-sufficiency in food and having products to trade.
