Going to the wedding with his parents, but Giong was busy running after the procession and lost his family. It was not until 48 years later that Giong found his relatives again, but could not see his parents' faces for the last time.
No one can understand the pain of parents who have lost their children, suffering for many years just hoping for family reunion, but sometimes they can't wait for the day their children return.
Remember one day in the second lunar month in 1974, a 10-year-old child with a thin body, as small as 7 years old, went to a wedding with his family, then followed the procession of the bride and got lost. That child's name is Do Van Giong.
Giong panicked, couldn't think of anything, so he ran for his life 40km in a few days, from Tu Dong village, Ly Thuong Kiet commune, Yen My district, Hung Yen province to Mat market (Hai Duong).
Here, Giong meets a woman. Knowing that Giong was lost, hungry, exhausted, this woman lovingly led her home to Phu Khe village, Thai Hoc commune, Binh Giang district, Hai Duong province, about 20km from Giong's house. After that, the woman gave Giong to Mrs. Do Thi Nguyet to take care of her. The first night at Mrs. Nguyet's house, Giong's feet hurt, so he cried all the time, constantly calling the names of his parents, brothers and sisters.
Ms. Nguyet is a martyr's wife and has been receiving death notices from her husband for 2 years. She already has 2 daughters, but she still wants to adopt another son for comfort. Giong returned to Mrs. Nguyet's house, was loved, cared for and taught by her adoptive mother and sisters. Mrs. Nguyet gave Giong a new name, Do Van Nam.
Nam remembers his parents' names, remembers that he has an older brother named Like, two younger brothers named Loan and Dung. His mother is tall and thin. But where is the home address, Nam can't remember.
After finishing grade 8, Nam asked to go to Hanoi to work. By 1989, Mr. Nam was an adult man, returning to his hometown to get married next door. For the past few decades, Nam and his wife have lived in harmony and happiness, had 3 children, and owned a grocery store and household appliances.
Life is peaceful, Mr. Nam remembers more about his biological family. Deep in his mind, he wished to see his parents and brothers again, to know his roots, to have a place to go.
"Everybody born in the world wants to meet their parents, siblings, aunts and uncles, but I haven't met them yet, so that's my fate," said Nam, with tears in his eyes. With the consent of his adoptive mother, Mr. Nam sent a letter to the program "As if there was never a separation" to search for relatives.
Talk about his biological parents Nam (ie Giong). That night, when the rice was served, they searched and couldn't find their children, so they mobilized everyone to look for them. In the following days, Mr. Do Van Boi (Giong's biological father) kept looking for his son. Who pointed where, he went there, sometimes it took a month to come back. The family situation was difficult, he ran to borrow money to pay the debt, just hoping to find a son. But all the family's efforts were in vain.
A few years later, Mr. Boi took his wife, Mrs. Chuc, and their children to go to the Central Highlands to go to the Central Highlands to do business. The whole family lives in Ia Grai district, Gia Lai. In 1992, Ms. Chuc died at the age of 60 due to stomach pain that her family could not afford to treat. 10 years later, Mr. Boi also passed away after a stroke, unable to say anything to his children.
Mr. Nam's three brothers, Mr. Like, Ms. Loan and Mr. Dung, currently live in Ia Grai. Everyone clings to the fields, everyone has their own life.
Thanks to the program "As if there was never a separation" connected, Mr. Nam found a relative in March 2022. Due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic at that time, the family had an online reunion, but it was equally emotional.
When they met, both sides were happy and sad, the brothers all noticed that Mr. Nam had a face very similar to his deceased father. Four brothers told each other about life, about the events that happened. Mr. Like, Ms. Loan, Mr. Dung thanked Mrs. Nguyet for carrying Mr. Nam, and thanked the program "As if there was never a separation" for helping blood and blood to meet again.
"I'm very happy, nearly 50 years to see you again, I'm very satisfied. Parents in the nine streams are also at peace, no longer have any regrets," sobbed Loan. The family promised that when the epidemic was over, they would meet in person.
