The date of the appeal hearing in the inheritance dispute involving the late artist Vu Linh officially took place, attracting significant public attention.
This is not only due to the value of the assets involved, but also because of new developments from the parties involved before the trial.
Leading up to the court date, the actions of the late artist's family and relatives quickly became a hot topic of discussion on social media.
Specifically, Ms. Vo Thi Hong Loan and her husband visited the late artist's grave to light incense and pray. This action was shared with the hope that the lawsuit would proceed smoothly, reach a conclusion soon, and put an end to the prolonged controversy. According to Ms. Hong Loan, she hopes everything will be resolved amicably, restoring peace to her family after nearly two years of legal dispute.
In addition, she expressed her happiness at receiving the support of her loved ones. Besides her husband and children, her two close friends, Bum Bum and My My, have always been by her side, becoming a source of emotional support during this stressful period. The presence and support from those close to her are considered a significant source of encouragement for her during this important time.
In another development, singer Hong Phuong – the late artist's niece – also made a noteworthy move on her personal page. She posted a photo of herself with the late artist along with a short caption: "Forever the most beautiful memory." With just seven words, the post quickly attracted attention and many comments from the public, as a way of expressing affection and remembrance for a deceased loved one during this sensitive time.
According to published information, the appeal hearing was held at the Court of Appeals of the Supreme People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City. The plaintiff in the case is Ms. Vo Thi Hong Nhung, the sister of the late artist. Meanwhile, the defendant is Ms. Vo Thi Hong Loan. In addition to the two main parties, the hearing also considered appeals from those with related rights and obligations, including Ms. Hong Phuong and Mr. Vo Thanh Nhieu - the late artist's brother. A total of 11 people were summoned to participate in this hearing.
Previously, at the first-instance trial held in January 2025, the judging panel determined that Ms. Hong Loan was a first-degree heir according to the law. However, the court also considered several related factors and decided that the plaintiff, Ms. Hong Nhung, would receive 15% of the late artist's estate. This decision immediately led to both sides filing appeals.
Specifically, Ms. Hong Loan requested the appellate court to amend the judgment by rejecting the allocation of 15% of the inheritance to Ms. Hong Nhung. She argued that the trial court's citation of Precedent 05/2016/AL exceeded the scope of its jurisdiction, and also reflected that she felt insulted and that there were signs of discrimination during the previous trial.
Conversely, Ms. Hong Nhung also filed an appeal requesting the annulment of documents related to the adoption, birth certificate, and inheritance declaration of Ms. Hong Loan. In her view, it should be determined that the late artist Vu Linh had no first-degree heirs. If this request is accepted, those in the second degree of kinship, including Ms. Hong Nhung and Mr. Vo Thanh Nhieu, would be entitled to the entire inheritance.
Reportedly, the dispute between the parties has been ongoing since the late artist's death in June 2023. At that time, Ms. Hong Nhung filed a lawsuit, requesting the court to annul documents related to the inheritance claims of Ms. Hong Loan. The assets mentioned in the lawsuit include a house and land at 5 Doan Thi Diem Street, Phu Nhuan District; two land use rights in Linh Trung Ward, Thu Duc City; and a car.
Throughout this period, the case has not only been a simple legal matter but has also attracted significant public attention due to its involvement with the family of a renowned cải lương (Vietnamese traditional opera) artist. Conflicts surrounding inheritance rights, legal documents, and family relationships have made the case a focal point of attention. This appeal trial is expected to clarify the remaining disputed issues and deliver a final verdict, bringing an end to the protracted dispute.

Bich Tram releases audio recording accusing Hong Loan of being disrespectful to Vu Linh and using inappropriate language.
Keng16:51:30 17/04/2026The use of the word "Ông" (Mr./Grandfather) in the audio recording quickly sparked controversy. Many argued that this form of address conveyed distance and a lack of closeness, especially since previously, in crowded places, Hong Loan often called him "Dad, Dad" and showed signs of emotion.
