The hypothesis that Empress Dowager Tu Hy was born again from Hoa Than is surprising, all suspicions stem from the poem that this 'first visit' wrote before ending her life at her palace.

After the movie Prime Minister Liu Gu aired in 1996, Hoa Than became a familiar name to many Vietnamese audiences. Many people believe that he is the first official not only of the Qing Dynasty, but also in history. Chinese history. There are indeed many remarkable stories surrounding this character.

According to old historical records, Hoa Than worked as a mandarin for 30 years. When his assets were counted, everyone was surprised. The total amount of m.oney he embezzled was up to 1 billion taels of silver, equivalent to the total financial income of the Qing Dynasty for 15 years.

Finally, less than half a month after Qianlong passed away, Hoa Than was given d.eath by the newly succeeded Emperor Gia Khanh, ending a legendary life.

Career flourishing

Hoa Than (1750 - 1799), belonged to the Niu Ho Loc family, Chinh Hong Ky people in Manchuria, his father was Vice Governor of Fujian province but his mother passed away early. Hoa Than's family situation gradually declined. His life as a c.hild was quite difficult, he often did not even have enough to eat, the two brothers had to rely on others to live.

Growing up, Hoa Than possessed an extraordinary appearance and was a handsome young man famous near and far. Furthermore, he was fluent in four languages: Manchu, Han, Mongolian and Tibetan. Even the Four Books and the Five Classics he understood.

At the age of 18, Hoa Than was loved by Phung Anh Liem, Governor of Truc Le, and married his niece. From then on, like a "carp turning into a dragon", he gradually climbed to the top of his career, despite not passing the exam.

When he turned 25, Hoa Than, with his handsome appearance and witty speaking talent, caught the eye of Emperor Qianlong.

Only a short time later, thanks to his profound knowledge, understanding of poetry, financial management, and talented diplomacy, Hoa Than was trusted and respected by Qianlong, holding 9 major positions in the court: Great minister internal affairs, great minister royal court, great mandarin Nghi Chinh, great mandarin Lam Ky leader of the internal guard, great mandarin Chinh Bach Ky command of the internal guard, great mandarin agency, great mandarin leader of the military department, university Venerable Van Hoa Palace, great Patriarch.

In addition, Hoa Than was also given the privilege of riding a horse inside the Forbidden City by the king, an honor usually reserved for senior officials who are old and not healthy enough to walk to the court.

In 1790, the relationship between Hoa Than and Qian Long became even closer when his son got married to Thap Cach Cach.

Process of degeneration and embezzlement

Many history books mention that, at the beginning of his career as an official, Hoa Than emphasized transparency and integrity. He even personally exposed many corruption cases. However, as his position became increasingly strengthened, along with the king's favor, he could no longer control himself.

Hoa Than was not afraid to publicly disclose his bribery and blackmailing of minor officials. Not only that, he and his henchmen also tried to plunder wealth, whether it was m.oney for famine relief or military treasury, even though during that period, the Qing Dynasty was constantly attacked by rebel forces.

Inventorying the assets at Hoa Than's palace, everyone was surprised by the total amount of m.oney he had embezzled, up to 11 billion taels of silver, equivalent to the total financial income of the Qing Dynasty for 15 years. In addition, in the house of Liu Quan, general governor of Hoa Than, a large amount of treasure including 240,000 taels of silver was also confiscated.

Curse before d.eath

After Hoa Than died, all of his assets were confiscated and confiscated. Thanks to this, the Qing Dynasty treasury became rich. That's why the folk have the saying: "Hoa Than fell from his horse, Gia Khanh was full".

Emperor Gia Khanh originally intended to punish Hoa Than for the crime of torturing. But the mandarins and princesses begged, and the Emperor changed his mind, allowing Hoa Than to end his life at home.

After hearing Emperor Gia Khanh's verdict, Hoa Than held a white silk s.trip more than 3 meters long, then laughed coldly and horribly. He then wrote a poem that cursed the entire Qing dynasty. The curse is as follows:

Five decades of mixed dreams and illusions

The Golden Dynasty evacuated its soldiers and thanked Hong Tran

Tha Nien Thuy Vang Ham Long Nhat

Receiving the hometown of Yen Thi's posterior b.ody.

Roughly translated:

Fifty years of fantasy and reality

In this life, let go and thank the world

The following year, the water rose and caused a huge flood

Recognize the incense of the descendants.

The first two verses are Hoa Than's memories of the past, considering his 50 years of life as smoke. In the next two sentences, he borrowed from classic stories to utter his curse. "Ham Long water fan" refers to rising flood waters.

Sure enough, the first year after Hoa Than's d.eath, the Yellow River dike in Henan broke.

The last sentence "Recognizing the fire of the descendants" is the implication that Hoa Than will wait for the next time when the flood waters rise to reincarnate, the Yellow River will break its dike again in Ha Nam province. And it was during the Yellow River's second flood that that year a b.aby girl cried and was born. That g.irl was the future Empress Dowager Cixi.

Some people believe that Hoa Than is the previous life of Queen Mother Tu Hy. Because of her hatred from her previous life, she caused the Manchu Dynasty to gradually decline and eventually perish. This also fulfilled the curse of Hoa Than left 100 years ago.

Of course, that is just a very thrilling hypothesis, and there is no basis to determine the truth of the story of Queen Mother Tu Hy's past life as Hoa Than.
