Eunuch is not a highly regarded job but can earn a lot of money and have opportunities for advancement. However, the price of becoming a eunuch is having to undergo a process of castration, losing the ability to "continue the family line".

It is known that before starting the process of castration, they will sign a contract with the royal court, have their health checked and have a conversation with the eunuch in charge, the content of which is as follows:

"Eunuch in charge: "You voluntarily entered the palace, right?".

Man: "Yes".

Eunuch in charge: "If you regret now, it's still too late."

Man: "Absolutely no regrets!".

Eunuch in charge: "Then in the future, if you cannot complete the family line, don't look back and complain."

Man: "No."

After that, the eunuch in charge reads the rules of becoming a eunuch once before officially "putting down the knife". After the castration, the eunuchs cannot leave immediately but will be arranged to live temporarily in the "Palace Supervisor's Room" for 1 month. This place will have 3 large chimneys on the roof, in the winter the furnace is regularly lit so that the room is not too hot or too cold, suitable for eunuchs with weak health to gradually recover after castration.

Castration is a process that is extremely harmful to health. Because of their poor family background, these men were forced by their parents to become eunuchs in the palace. They did not have the love of their families, nor did they have normal psychology and physiology, so they could not have a female companion for their entire lives.

There have been many notorious eunuchs in history who did bad things. According to modern psychological research, people with physical disabilities are at a much higher risk of developing psychological problems.

Once they have power, they want to prove that they are respected by others. If they continue like this, they will easily go astray and become a disaster for the country and the people.

Of course, this depends on the person. No matter who they are, they all have demons and Buddhas in their hearts. If Buddha can control demons, they will do good deeds and become good people. If not, they will fall into the path of demons and become evil.

Among the eunuchs there were some who were cruel, but of course there were also those who did good deeds and accumulated virtue.

The main character in the story we are going to tell today is a kind eunuch. In order to save people, this eunuch pretended to preach the holy edict, and in the end saved thousands of lives. He was called the "most honorable" eunuch in history, and people still praise him to this day.

Eunuchs were the Emperor's closest confidants, the ones who conveyed his will to the Emperor. This was one of the main jobs of eunuchs. It could be seen that the Emperor trusted eunuchs very much. The Emperor was the one who held the highest power in the feudal period. If one said one thing, there would be no other, the imperial edict was also the Emperor's will. If anyone dared to forge an imperial edict, they would definitely be punished.

Some people say that the crime of forging an imperial edict, forging an imperial edict, borrowing the emperor's name, forging an imperial edict, or distorting an imperial order would normally result in the death penalty. It can be seen that this eunuch deliberately misreading the words was extremely reckless. This eunuch was Zhang Juhan, a eunuch at the end of the Tang Dynasty. Zhang Juhan was born in 858 and was adopted by Zhang Cihong, and after a while was brought into the palace to work as a eunuch.

Zhang Juhan was a person who did not like to abuse his power to cause trouble. He was upright, honest, straightforward, brave, and had exceptional qualities. When Emperor Zhuangzong of Tang ascended the throne, Zhang Juhan, although appointed as Xu Mi Xu, was primarily responsible for military and political affairs and promulgating the Emperor's orders, but he never abused his power. Emperor Zhuangzong of Tang was complacent because he had destroyed Later Liang, and the eunuchs seized power because of that.

In 926 AD, the Later Tang Dynasty was involved in a series of rebellions. Emperor Zhuangzong of Tang believed that the descendant of the Shu Emperor, Wang Yan, was the ringleader, seizing the opportunity to cause trouble and posing as a future threat, so he issued an edict to kill Wang Yan and his faction, even including former Shu officials and servants.

But fortunately, the person who checked the imperial edict and delivered the imperial edict at this time was Zhang Juhan. After seeing the imperial edict, Zhang Juhan felt that if Wang Yan had already surrendered, then killing him now would be too cruel, inhumane, and too cold and heartless. Therefore, Zhang Juhan changed the word "Xing" to "Jia" in the imperial edict, and the imperial edict changed from "Kill Wang Yan and his faction" to "Kill Wang Yan and his family". Thanks to that, the lives of more than a thousand innocent people were saved, which could be considered very merciful.

Distorting or falsifying the imperial edict was a capital offense, so no one suspected anything. No one expected that Zhang Juhan would have the courage to change the imperial edict, so they just followed what he read and did the work. Luckily, at that time, Emperor Zhuangzong of Tang was busy fighting in the war and did not investigate the matter thoroughly, so Zhang Juhan escaped with his life.

Zhang Juhan sat in a high position but never abused his power. When he discovered the wrongdoings of his superiors, he had the courage to do what no one else dared to do to save more than a thousand innocent lives. This was his merit, showing how upright and brave he was. No wonder he was always praised by later generations. Later, when Emperor Mingzong of Tang ascended the throne, this Emperor also greatly appreciated Zhang Juhan's righteous actions and especially allowed this loyal eunuch to retire and return home to enjoy his old age. When Zhang Juhan passed away, the story of the kind eunuch was still passed down.
