On the night of July 16, Thai and foreign media simultaneously reported on the incident of a group of foreign tourists (3 men, 3 women) passing away at the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel in the Ratchaprasong area, Bangkok, Thailand. . In this group, there are 4 people of Vietnamese nationality, the remaining 2 people are Vietnamese Americans.

The hotel said this group of guests initially booked 5 rooms for 7 people, but only 5 people showed up to check in. When the tragedy was discovered, the number of people at the scene was 6.
Therefore, the police are focusing on 3 lines of investigation including: Verifying whether the 7th person actually entered Thailand or not; collect detailed information about 6 victims; If a "7th person" does not exist, begin investigating the motive.
"We are looking for a 7th person because the numbers do not match the check-in records. If they travel together, there will be information about the itinerary, seat number and detailed information about the airline" - Trung General Thiti Saengsawang, Director of the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Department, said.
The police also asked the Vietnamese embassy to check the victims' occupations and their purpose when coming to Thailand. Police also questioned food service staff to see if they noticed anything unusual.
The victims went to the hotel and booked many different rooms but "all were found in the same room, with no signs of violence". "This is clearly a motivated case, not suicide," Lieutenant General Thiti said in the Bangkok Post.
Initial signs showed that the victims passed away about 24 hours before being discovered by hotel staff.
According to Matichon online, the authorities checked the camera at the hotel entrance and recorded images of 6 victims dragging suitcases into the hotel room. Previously, 6 guests arrived at the hotel in two batches on July 13 and 14.
An image recorded on the afternoon of July 15 shows that these 6 guests all went to room 502. On July 16, the case of 6 Vietnamese people passing away in a hotel in Bangkok was discovered.
