Hanoi: Explosion of air conditioner compressor, many seriously injured, 1 victim body not intact

Near noon today, the air conditioning repair workshop located deep in the house of 250 Vinh Hung (Hoang Mai district, Hanoi) suddenly had a large explosion, causing many injured people to be hospitalized in an emergency.

Initial information, at about 9:50 am on 7/11, in the area of Vinh Hung ward, Hoang Mai district, Hanoi, there was a serious accident suspected of an air conditioner cyclone explosion, causing 3 people at the scene to be injured.

At that time, at an air-conditioning repair workshop located deep in the house of 250 Vinh Hung, Vinh Hung ward suddenly made a loud explosion. Immediately, people living around were promptly present to provide initial assistance to the person in distress. At the scene, several victims were lying on the ground of the workshop, with serious injuries identified.

Ms. Tran Thu (who lives opposite the refrigeration factory) said that around 10am on November 7, she heard a thunderous explosion and smoke rising in the repair workshop. "When I ran over, the smoke was still hazy. One young man lay on the ground covered with a blanket and 1 other suffered serious leg injuries. Another young man was inside the house with a black nose and minor injuries," Thu said.

According to Thu, some debris splashed from the explosion caused the metal roof of the workshop to be punctured and fly to the back of a neighbor's house. Every day, this workshop has 5-7 workers who regularly come to work.

"I ran out of the house and saw a lot of neighbours running around because I didn't know what had just happened. At the beginning of the alley, I saw a black piece of metal, similar to a gas cylinder casing, about 30cm in diameter," said Ms. Gui, who lives about 100m from the scene, who was still alarmed after the explosion.

Receiving the report, the functional forces of Hoang Mai district (Hanoi) were present and coordinated with the people to take the victims to the emergency hospital. The police of Hoang Mai district then cordoned off the scene to investigate.

The incident was determined at the repair area of Tung Nga Refrigeration Company, the cause of the explosion was caused by a malfunction from the repair air conditioner. The explosion injured 3 people, of which, L.V.H. (born in 1992, residing in Vinh Loc, Thanh Hoa) was seriously injured, 1 part of his body was not intact and was being treated at Thanh Nhan Hospital in critical condition.

Two other victims with lesser injuries are being treated at Military Hospital 108: N.V.Th. (born in 1997, residing in Nga Son, Thanh Hoa) and N.V.T. (born in 1983, is the director of the company). Currently, the cause of the incident is being investigated by the authorities.

About 3 days ago, a similar explosion occurred in Quang Ngai province injuring many people. Accordingly, around 14:00 on November 3, leaders of Dung Quat Economic Zone (Quang Ngai) said that in the area, there had just been a gas cylinder explosion at Dung Quat Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (DQS Company - based in Dung Quat Economic Zone), causing 9 workers to be burned.

Immediately, all the victims were transferred to Quang Nam Central General Hospital (located in Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam) for emergency treatment. In the evening of the same day, talking with Thanh Nien PV, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hung, Director of Quang Nam Central General Hospital, said that after receiving the victims, the hospital classified the level of burns and handled them for each case.

However, after providing first aid, it was found that all patients in the gas cylinder explosion were beyond capacity, so they were transferred to Da Nang Hospital for further observation and treatment.

Dr. Le Duc Nhan - Director of Da Nang Hospital said that the hospital is focusing human resources to treat 9 victims in the gas cylinder explosion in Quang Ngai. Also according to Dr. Nhan, the hospital has mobilized specialists in burns, emergency, resuscitation ... and treatment efforts.

"Of these, 3 critically ill patients were transferred to external resuscitation, 1 patient was transferred to emergency burns. Other cases were transferred to the Department of Surgery - Burns for observation. Currently, the hospital is focusing on treating patients, especially for 3 patients who are critical," the hospital director said.
