Cuong's mother struggled to go back and forth between Nghe An and Hanoi alone, both taking care of Cuong's 2 brothers and taking care of her sick husband. Cuong and his brother were too young at that time to do anything to help their parents.

Recalling that difficult time, Cuong shared: "Valuable assets in the family were all pledged to have money for my father's treatment. My mother was always in the hospital, so many days the brothers had to go to find sweet potatoes to eat instead of rice.

Sometimes, my brother and I have to quit school because we don't have money to pay tuition fees, at that time, the family is really in an extreme situation."

All the burden falls on the shoulders of the mother with many efforts, trying to be with her 3 children for 5 long years. When the economy ran out and there was no longer the ability to continue treatment, the whole family had to accept that Cuong's father had to have one leg amputated.

In the 5th grade, while his peers were still engrossed in playing, his parents picked him up and took him to school, Cuong had to go to school and work part-time. Despite working hard and not having much time to invest in studying, Cuong is always a student who is loved and admired by teachers and friends because of his remarkable academic achievements.

Cuong's brother himself, when he finished 9th grade because of circumstances that did not allow it, his brother had to quit school to work, help his mother raise his sick father and raise his younger brother to study. The sacrifice of his mother and brother has motivated Cuong to study and work to become a doctor of philosophy who is famous for his family today.

Champion of "Bolero Idol 2018"

Music for Duy Cuong has been a passion since childhood, but due to family circumstances, he has not had many opportunities to develop his talent. With "Bolero Idol", from the first seasons he watched all the rounds, but in the 2018 season, Cuong decided to register for the contest.

As a fate, Cuong surpassed many other contestants and was lucky to enter the inner round.

For this young doctor, Bolero songs with meaningful lyrics and gentle but deep melodies have helped him imbue him with the joy of life.

"When I registered for this program, some people expressed doubts, not believing that a doctor of philosophy could sing Bolero music well. The rest of everyone from my family, friends, and students support and send extremely meaningful wishes," Cuong shared.

Entering the elite circle, Duy Cuong chose the song "Rainy night in a small province" by musician Hoai Phuong. Sharing about the reason for choosing this song, he said: "I have listened to this song many times and feel really emotional with the lyrics and melody of the song. For this music, the more life experiences, the more love songs will be more and deeper.

Although I am a young person, I haven't had much experience in life, but I think the spirit is the most important thing, so I will take advantage of my youth to bring freshness to this song.

Duy Cuong also said that for Bolero music, he idolizes Mr. Ngoc Son very much, therefore, if the song "rainy night in a small province" is lucky to be chosen by the coaches, Cuong will choose Mr. Ngoc Son's team.

"Although I have not had the opportunity to meet and interact with Mr. Ngoc Son in real life, through the press and social networks, I know that Mr. Ngoc Son also had a difficult childhood. He is also a person who has a lot of affection for his mother, which makes me feel empathy," Cuong shared.

After winning the championship, the guy invested in making a billion-dollar liveshow. Duy Cuong alone naturally cannot afford to do such a live show. Cuong is lucky to have the companionship and support of a young businessman born in 1988, who loves singing and always supports Duy Cuong.
