Miss Kieu Duy is haunted by her biological mother carrying 40kg of oranges, emotionally recalling a man

Nguyen Ngoc Kieu Duy - the new Miss Vietnam 2024 shares her journey from a student who was self-conscious about her appearance to conquering the most prestigious crown. In particular, she revealed about her family, making people emotional.

Recalling her childhood with her grandparents and parents, Kieu Duy has many memorable memories. Especially the image of her grandfather, a civil servant, who, despite having to go to work early, still woke up to buy breakfast for his granddaughter. This habit lasted throughout Kieu Duy's time in kindergarten until the end of primary school.

"Grandpa only shows his love through actions. Surely when I won the title of Miss Vietnam, my grandfather, family and all those who love me will be very proud of me," Kieu Duy emotionally shared.

Even on the coronation night, although he could not be present because it coincided with his uncle's wedding, his grandfather still watched and supported his granddaughter from afar. Kieu Duy took the opportunity to call home to share the joy with her family right after the competition night ended.

In addition, Miss Kieu Duy considers her mother as her idol and the person who has the biggest influence on her outlook on life. Her mother is both an orange farmer and a buyer.

"There were rainy days, my mother was still in the garden cutting and collecting oranges. A basket of oranges weighed more than 40kg, my mother and my uncles had to transport it together. I experienced that feeling and knew my mother worked very hard. Therefore, it was natural for me to try, I had to make my mother proud," she confided.

Not only is Kieu Duy's mother a hard worker, she is also very capable. In particular, she is always a reliable psychological consultant for Kieu Duy when she encounters difficulties: "Mom always respects my decisions and if I need support with a problem, she will be the one to provide the appropriate solution."

Sharing her passion, Kieu Duy said she especially loves the stage. She participated in many cultural activities when she was in kindergarten, from plays to kindergarten graduation speeches. It was her mother who guided Kieu Duy to be confident and comfortable in expressing herself.

Kieu Duy's first competition was Miss Charming Ao Dai Tra On district in 2020 when she was still an 11th grader. "I realized that during the competition, the most important thing is sincerity towards everyone. I practiced catwalk myself and was willing to support other contestants. When helping my friends, I also had more opportunities to practice and spread what I know," she shared.

At Miss FPTU Can Tho 2022, Kieu Duy faced her own insecurities about her weight and appearance. However, with her confidence and courage, she overcame these barriers to win. "When I believe in myself, I will have the opportunity to stand on stage to speak or answer questions. I have to try my best to perform well and convince everyone," she said.

Although she only won second priz.e at the Can Tho City Elegant Student Contest, Kieu Duy still learned valuable lessons. "Sometimes failure gives us the opportunity to look back and improve ourselves. I have learned many lessons from this contest," she said.

At the 2023 Miss Tay Do contest, Kieu Duy gradually improved, although her weight was still a challenge. "The pressure to lose weight made me gain more weight. But when I realized that I had to enjoy the contest, live a healthier and more positive life, I lost more than 6kg by the time of the Miss Vietnam National Contest," she confided.

Kieu Duy believes that in any competition, the biggest challenge is to overcome your own limits. "We often set barriers like 'I'm not good at talking', 'I'm too heavy'. But if you are not confident in communicating, you need to practice speaking more in front of the mirror. Regarding weight, you should eat healthily, exercise and feel comfortable with that process," she shared.

Regarding her upcoming plans, Kieu Duy will focus on learning Japanese in addition to improving her English proficiency, and will arrange her time to balance her studies and beauty queen activities.
