Di Giua Troi Ruc Ro is currently the most talked about and watched Vietnamese TV series. The series has a high rating of over 4.0, higher than other primetime series airing at the same time.
From the first episodes, the brainchild of director Do Thanh Son has been praised endlessly. With its novel content and young, potential cast, the film is considered a breath of fresh air on the small screen.
However, as time went on, Di Giua Troi Ruc Ro had more and more problems, receiving mixed reactions from the audience.
Di Giua Troi Ruc Ro is set in the Cao Bang mountains, the first episodes revolve around the lives of the Red Dao people. The film scores points for its beautiful scenes, showing the majesty of the mountains and forests, reflecting the cultural beauty of the Vietnamese people.
After airing, the ethnic costumes of the characters, especially the female lead, caused controversy. The image of her wearing a Red Dao costume while herding buffalo was considered inappropriate, causing the ethnic community to speak out in anger.
Viewers believe that the Red Dao people only wear ceremonial costumes with red feathers on their chests on special occasions such as festivals, New Year, and weddings. Some people even angrily accused the crew of disrespecting the Red Dao culture.
Dr. Ban Tuan Nang shared with Dan Tri newspaper that he found that Di Giua Troi Ruc Ro had many errors, not accurately reflecting the lifestyle and activities of the Red Dao people. According to him, the Red Dao people also do not address each other as in the film, but only call each other normally like the Kinh people. In addition, the detail of Chai wearing a woman's bib is inappropriate.
Speaking to Giao Thong newspaper, Dr. Ban Tuan Nang also said that the director admitted his mistake. However, he realized that the crew was not capable enough to immerse themselves in the cultural life of the Dao people. It can be said that Di Giua Troi Ruc Ro opens up many lessons in making films about ethnic themes. This requires the crew to carefully research culture, lifestyle, costumes... to avoid negative reactions when bringing it to the screen.
The film follows Pu (Thu Ha Ceri) - an 18-year-old girl who dreams of learning. Pu becomes the pride of the whole village when she is admitted to a prestigious university in Hanoi. Chai (Long Vu) - the richest young master in the village, falls deeply in love with Pu and is willing to do anything for the person he loves.
In the first episodes, the audience went crazy over the cuteness of the Pu - Chai couple. Chai's gallantry even made many people urge Pu to quickly marry him. "If I were Pu, the show would end after the first few episodes, because I agreed to marry Chai," many viewers said.
However, in episode 14, Pu was criticized by viewers for being ungrateful and taking advantage of Chai's love. After Chai lived with his wife's family for a while, Pu agreed to marry Chai to chase him back home. Pu then postponed the wedding and told Chai about her dream of going to the city to study. Chai also understood Pu and agreed to let her go to school on the condition that he could go with her.
Mr. Chieu (Chai's father) was furious when he heard his son's intention and locked him up. Chai could not see his girlfriend off to school and was very sad. When Pu was on the bus to Hanoi, Chai called but Pu refused to answer. This made Chai cry out of helplessness.
At the climax, Chai went to Hanoi to find every way to meet Pu. Every time Chai called, Pu answered with an unpleasant attitude, then hung up. On forums, the audience sympathized with Chai's character, when his sincerity was not properly responded to.
In addition, some people noticed that the show is gradually losing popularity, the script is becoming long-winded even though it has only aired 16 episodes. According to the crew, the show is about 110 episodes long, and the audience is worried that the show will fall into the "elephant head, mouse tail" rut - a common mistake in Vietnamese television projects in recent years.
