Singer Yen Thu's real name is Dao Thi Thu, born in 1956. When she was young, she was a singer possessing beautiful beauty, once loved by the audience on the stage of the famous Diamond Speaking Troupe. More than 40 years ago, she was active in many music venues in Saigon.

Yen Thu was active at the same time as the famous singer Painted Mi, Ngoc Yen. She is a junior of singer Thai Chau, actor Nguyen Chanh Tin, famous for songs such as Old Voice, Ru ta pensive, Ao ba ba, Huong with young hair, Shang to the center, Sad tango...

In some plays that needed public roles, she was also invited by the Diamond People's Party and always acted with enthusiasm. In the years after 1990 when the Diamond Speaking Troupe ceased operations, she began to receive performances at music venues, appearing regularly at the Copper Drum Stage and Stage 126 (District 3 Cultural Center).

In the last years of her life, singer Yen Thu lived a poor life, suffering from two cancers at the same time, having to shave her head because of chemotherapy and radiation. Due to illness, she retired from singing for ten years.

Unlike the beautiful and magnificent image of her youth, singer Yen Thu at the end of her life looked quite emaciated, weak health, and difficult living. She lived in a small, old house, deep in the alley.

The singer shared that since 2010, she found out she had blood cancer. In the past, the hospital sponsored her, so she could take specific treatment drugs for free, only paying for tests and examinations.

But recently, the hospital stopped funding, and she had to buy her own drugs at expensive prices. Every month, it costs her tens of millions to buy 4 boxes of special medicines to drink. It turns out that each pill costs 400 thousand VND.

The doctor told her that if she stopped taking the pills, the disease would go into a severe stage. But she couldn't afford the medicine, so she had to stop. From the moment she stopped taking the pills, her condition worsened. In 2023, she will have to undergo 5 chemotherapy infusions, 3 dialysis sessions.

She once said: "The doctor told me that if I stopped taking this drug, it would turn into a severe stage. But I didn't have money to buy medicine, so I had to stop. Since I stopped taking the pills, last year I had to go for 5 chemotherapy infusions, 3 dialysis sessions, and I was very tired. So the doctor told me to try to run money to buy medicine because the drug is compatible, only this drug can prevent blood cancer cells from growing."

The blood cancer was incurable, and she was found to have thyroid cancer. Therefore, her health is getting weaker and weaker, so until now, until her death, she has not been able to perform surgery as prescribed by doctors.

Despite illness, he still cleans the house every day, diligently recites prayers

Singer Yen Thu has a daughter but the economy is also very difficult. Still, her daughter took care of her. From the moment she found out her mother was sick, she quit her job to take care of her mother, did not work anywhere, so she had no money.

She also tried to run money for her mother to buy special medicines to drink, but only for a short time. Singer Yen Thu's son-in-law is also very kind, going to work alone to take care of his wife and children and sick mother-in-law.

The only thing she could do now was to return to the Dharma. She could only recite prayers and pray. She said that from the moment she found out there was a disease, she went to temples and read sutras.

Despite her illness, singer Yen Thu still lives tidily, cleans the house every day, and diligently recites prayers to keep a light mind.

She once said at the river water market rice trade program: "Every morning I get up at 3 am to recite sutras, recite Buddha 108 times a day, return merit. I'm optimistic, if I'm not optimistic, I'd be a long time ago. Now I don't go singing, but sometimes I sing and play at home for fun."

Thanks to the optimistic spirit, Buddha-oriented, before his death, singer Yen Thu was more serene, not tormented much by illness.

Since the discovery of cancer, she has also taken a break from singing to devote herself to treatment. Despite living in illness, the singer's spirit remains optimistic. She said: "I'm very optimistic, if I wasn't optimistic, I would have been a long time ago. Now I don't go singing, but sometimes I sing and play at home for fun.
