On December 28th, Thanh Tung and his half-sister held a memorial service for actor Thuong Tin at Son Hai Pagoda (Ninh Thuan). The ceremony was solemn and heartwarming, bringing to a close many memories of the tumultuous life of the male artist.
On December 28th, at Son Hai Pagoda (Phan Rang - Thap Cham City, Ninh Thuan Province), the family and relatives held a memorial service for the late actor Thuong Tin. The ceremony, attended by his children, siblings, and those close to the artist during his final years, took place in a solemn and poignant atmosphere.
According to the family, the memorial service was held at the suggestion of Son Hai Pagoda. After reading news reports about Thuong Tin's simple and sparsely attended funeral, the monks at the pagoda expressed their sorrow over the tumultuous life of a talented artist. Out of sympathy, the pagoda wished to organize a memorial service to commemorate him, as a token of gratitude to this son of Phan Rang.
During the ceremony, Thanh Tung – Thuong Tin's eldest son – could not hide his emotions as he stood before his father's portrait and read the eulogy. His farewell words, spoken through tears, were filled with both the pain of loss and pride in his father who had dedicated his life to acting.
"My father – the artist loved by millions – breathed his last at 6:58 PM on December 8th in his hometown of Phan Rang, at the age of 69. In his 69 years of life, my father lived a tumultuous existence, from the heights of glory to the quiet solitude of his final years. At this moment, standing before my father's portrait, I understand that he has finally returned to my mother, to the protection of the Buddha," Thanh Tung shared, his voice choked with emotion.
In his eulogy, he also thanked the philanthropists and fellow artists who did not turn their backs on him but always stood by and supported Thuong Tin during his battle with illness. He also expressed gratitude to his family members for taking turns caring for him so that his father could pass away surrounded by love, right in his hometown where he was born and raised.
With emotion, Thanh Tung confided in his father: "At this moment, I believe you have found true peace. All the glory, pain, right and wrong of a lifetime, please leave them behind the door of life. I will always remember my talented father who made so many contributions to cinema."
The memorial service was also attended by Thach Thao, Thuong Tin's daughter. She was someone the actor had repeatedly expressed his wish to see in his final days, but was unable to do so. Thach Thao's presence at the ceremony moved many people to tears.
A family acquaintance said that bringing Thach Thao to the temple initially encountered some difficulties. "At first, Thao's mother had a slight problem and might not have been able to bring her here. When Thao expressed her determination to come and light incense for her father, her mother arranged her schedule to bring her here to fulfill her filial duty," the acquaintance shared.
The entire ceremony took place in a calm and respectful atmosphere. Without ostentation or fanfare, the memorial service was an opportunity for those who remain to remember Thuong Tin with compassion and respect, bringing to a close a life full of ups and downs.
After the ceremony ended, Thanh Tung confided to To Hieu: "I am very moved. Finally, I can stand before everyone and say good things about my father. I will always be proud of him."
