Yesterday afternoon, family members laid the late artist Thuong Tin to rest in Phan Rang. He was buried in a quiet field, about 10 km from his home, bringing to a close a life full of ups and downs.
Actor Thuong Tin passed away at 6:50 PM on December 8th in his hometown of Phan Rang - Thap Cham, Khanh Hoa, at the age of 69, ending a long journey filled with ups and downs and a persistent battle with illness. In his final years, he lived in a state of declining health, almost unable to live independently, relying on family members for everything.
According to musician Tô Hiếu, a close colleague who closely followed Thương Tín's health, in September 2025, when he visited, the actor was still able to converse. However, after just over a month, his condition unexpectedly worsened. Tô Hiếu recounted: "On November 25th, I called to ask if the family had been affected by the storm and floods, and also inquired about Tín's health. I was told that he had almost lost consciousness, couldn't eat or drink, and was just lying in bed."
The musician said that for the last two months of his life, Thuong Tin lay motionless in bed. Close to his death, he became completely unresponsive and left no last words.
Upon hearing the news of Thuong Tin's death, To Hieu and Thanh Tung – the late artist's son – immediately set off for Phan Rang that same night. He said he arrived at 4 am on December 9th and was able to see his close friend one last time. According to To Hieu, the family members took turns closing Thuong Tin's eyes so that he could pass away peacefully and serenely.
The following afternoon, the late artist was laid to rest. His grave was located in a quiet field, about 10 kilometers from his home. To Hieu was the only colleague present throughout the funeral, from arranging the burial to the final interment.
He said emotionally that because Thuong Tin passed away suddenly and in a distant hometown, the funeral was quite simple, attended only by relatives, a few neighbors, and family members: "Only comedians Hong To and Huu Nghia sent wreaths to pay their respects. Looking at his quiet funeral, I realize how impermanent life is."
Not only was he emotional, To Hieu also recounted an incident that haunted him while watching over the coffin on the last night. He clearly remembered the moment he lit an incense stick for his senior colleague when the light bulb on the right suddenly exploded: "Just as I put the incense stick down, the light bulb exploded with a 'bang,' going out and plunging everything into darkness. I was so scared that I immediately lit incense at the Buddhist altar and prayed to Anh Tin, asking him to send me a dream if anything happened."
The next morning, when he recounted the story to his family, an elderly man said that perhaps Thuong Tin still had something troubling him, which is why he left such a mark.
At the funeral, Thuong Tin's fourth wife also brought their young daughter to see her father one last time. However, she did not mourn, only standing quietly observing from a distance. To Hieu explained: "They didn't register their marriage beforehand, so when they separated, it was a natural breakup, without any formal ties."
Her presence was solely to help her son fulfill his duty to his deceased father, while also showing respect for his paternal family. Although no longer emotionally bound, she maintained a measured attitude, ensuring that everything at the funeral proceeded smoothly and did not add further pressure to the relatives who were handling the funeral arrangements.
