In 2007, Mr. Tran and Ms. Tang got married, but after only 3 years of marriage, their relationship deteriorated. By 2010, they intended to end their marriage because they could no longer continue their life together. In August 2011, Mr. Chen met and got to know a woman named Chung. After a period of back and forth, the two developed feelings and decided to live together in a rented house. By June 2022, the couple had a daughter together.

As for Mr. Chen's previous wife, because she is still their daughter-in-law, in 2023, Ms. Tang has returned to Hunan (China) to visit her husband's ancestral grave. According to local custom, the names of family members including daughters-in-law and granddaughters-in-law will be written next to the tombstones of deceased ancestors, grandparents, and parents.

While visiting the grave, Tang suddenly discovered that the name of her husband's mistress who had not yet completed the divorce proceedings had been engraved on the tombstone as his wife. Immediately, she took photos, collected evidence and reported the incident to the authorities.

According to Tang, because the couple had been married for many years but had no children, the relationship was not as early as the beginning. However, up to now, although the two have not divorced, the name of the niece-in-law on the ancestral grave of Mr. Chen's family has changed.

"Around November 2011, I heard from my husband's colleague that he had another woman outside and was renting a house with him in Bao'an, Shenzhen. But I still don't believe it because there is no evidence at all. In March 2012, my husband filed for divorce at the Nanshan District Court but the matter has not been resolved.

In March 2013, through my husband's colleagues, I learned that my husband was living with a woman named Chung as husband and wife, giving birth to a child. Then I went to the hospital to find out and take pictures. The certificate states that his mother's name is Chung, his father's name is Tran," Tang shared.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chen claimed that his eldest wife had hidden her true age and could not bear children. So he found another woman with whom he could "declare the details."

"After 4 months of marriage, I found out my wife hid her real age (she was 3 years older than me). Our relationship began to fracture and I decided to divorce. We separated in October 2010.

I met Chung in November 2011 and had a one-night stand. Later, Chung gets pregnant and she insists on having children. I love her and accept everything. Chung didn't know I was married," Chen said.

Besides, the man also added that the reason why the divorce has been delayed for so long is because Ms. Tang asked for 500,000 yuan (about 1.7 billion VND) but he could not pay.

In March 2012, Mr. Chen entrusted a lawyer in Nanshan, Shenzhen to file for divorce at the People's Court of Nanshan District. But until June 2012, the court still asked the two parties to mediate and the divorce was constantly left open. During that time, he and his eldest wife were actually separated.

Despite trying to explain, in the end, the Shenzhen court still found Mr. Chen guilty and prosecuted in accordance with the law. The man committed 2 wives and was sentenced to 5 months of criminal confinement.

In Vietnam, according to Article 182 of the 2015 Penal Code, the "crime of violating monogamy" is stipulated as follows:

A married person who marries/lives together as husband and wife with another person or an unmarried or unmarried person who marries/lives together as husband and wife with a person whom he knows to be married or has a wife in one of two cases:

1. Make the marital relationship of one or both parties lead to divorce.

2. Having been administratively sanctioned for this act but also violating... shall be punished with warning, non-custodial rehabilitation for up to 1 year or imprisonment from 3 months to 1 year.
