Having had cancer for 4 years and facing "death's door" twice, the young man was never afraid. He was even optimistic enough to share his medication journey, inspiring many young people.
"How should a person with leukemia after 4 years take medicine? 1 dry chemical pill, this is my special medicine to treat M3 leukemia, liver tonic, omega-3. 6 pills in the morning, evening 5 pills, a total of 11 pills/day. Having this disease costs a lot of money, but everything that can be bought with money is still very cheap, especially health and life."
Those are the shares of Pham Khoi Nguyen (21 years old, Hanoi) in the "medicinal mukbang" clip he posted on his personal TikTok account. Also from that clip, the boy received a lot of attention and encouragement from the online community.
It is known that 4 years ago, when he was just 17 years old, Khoi Nguyen discovered that he had leukemia. That year, he was in grade 12 at a high school in Ha Dong district (Hanoi).
The initial signs were just a few bruises on his body. Nguyen did not expect that this was a signal that he had hidden malignant cells in his body. The moment he heard that he had leukemia, M3 marrow, his friend was shocked and asked himself: "Why me?".
Because since childhood, Nguyen is famous for being a guy who loves sports and extracurricular activities. Thinking about unfulfilled plans, unfinished dreams, and everything having to end here, the young man became even more depressed.
But he still silently told himself: "Don't cry. Because it will make your parents more sad and worried." Using his family as motivation, Khoi Nguyen strongly entered a 5-month chemotherapy regimen with 3 rounds of drugs at the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.
5 months of chemotherapy passed with lots of memories but also lots of luck. Khoi Nguyen responded well to the medication, his disease was somewhat controlled and he was discharged from the hospital. When he returned home, he continued his days of maintaining medication, getting regular check-ups, and spending the last 4 months re-studying the 12th grade program and studying for the university entrance exam.
The doctor said that if after 2 years from the end of treatment at the hospital there are no signs of recurrence, the patient will be declared cured. However, in October 2022 - nearly 2 years later, Khoi Nguyen once again relapsed. This time, he was not shocked but rather calmly accepted it, entering the second round of treatment with an optimistic and comfortable mind.
Worth mentioning, after completing the procedure, the hospital announced that it was out of medicine. Because leukemia is a disease that progresses very quickly, we cannot wait too long. At this time, the young man's family made a very surprising decision: Bring him to Singapore even though the treatment cost could reach several billion dong.
"Hearing about the cost of treatment, I knew my family couldn't afford it, so I definitely refused. Hearing me say that, the whole family was sad. My parents borrowed from everywhere, from cousins to friends. friends to have money to take me to treatment," the friend said.
During the first days in a foreign land, Khoi Nguyen and her mother could not avoid difficulties and surprises. However, they were also fortunate to receive the help of many new friends, some of whom they only met for the first time and were ready to support mother and daughter with all their might. Thanks to that, the days of medical treatment abroad are also easier.
The second treatment in the "lion island" was not as tiring as the first time, so Khoi Nguyen spent time receiving treatment while studying for certificates related to human resource management, along with marketing and communications. He also explored this land with his mother and recorded videos to share about his medical journey.
After 7 months of treatment, Khoi Nguyen's health condition has improved a lot, making him eligible to be discharged from the hospital and return to his country to continue his studies. Currently, he is still tested periodically and sent to Singapore for doctors to monitor.
Having faced "death's door" twice, Khoi Nguyen realized that for cancer patients, spirituality is a very important "medicine". No matter what happens, he will accept it with the most positive and optimistic attitude.
Currently, Khoi Nguyen is actively sharing about his cancer treatment journey on the TikTok channel "bbi.knguyen". The young man's humorous storytelling and cheerful tone made many people admire and love him more.
