Giving 100,000 VND to each citizen celebrating Independence Day: How to receive?

In a flexible move aimed at easing the economic burden on its citizens, the Cambodian government has officially announced a temporary suspension of traffic violation penalties, following alarmingly high fuel prices.
Pressure from the global energy "storm".
According to Xinhua News Agency and the latest data from the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce, the country's domestic energy market is experiencing its most volatile period in years. Escalating conflicts in the Middle East have indirectly dealt a severe blow to the global energy supply chain, and Cambodia – a country heavily reliant on imported oil – is bearing the direct consequences.
Specifically, diesel prices at gas stations have surged to 7,100 riel/liter (approximately 46,794 VND), while regular gasoline remains at a staggering 5,450 riel/liter (approximately 35,919 VND). Notably, current diesel prices have seen a phenomenal increase of 84% compared to the period before the conflict broke out. The inability to independently exploit offshore oil and gas reserves makes the Cambodian economy extremely sensitive and vulnerable to fluctuations in the international energy market.
Replacing punishment with a warning: A humane solution in difficult times.
In light of the above situation, on March 26, Cambodian Ministry of Interior spokesperson Touch Sokhak announced that the government had decided to temporarily suspend financial penalties for traffic violations. This is seen as a direct support policy, helping people reduce their financial burden during a period of tight budgets.
Mr. Touch Sokhak emphasized: "This measure is an attempt by the Government to avoid creating unnecessary financial burdens for drivers, who are already struggling to adapt to the skyrocketing price of gasoline."
Accordingly, traffic police nationwide will temporarily suspend the recording of traffic violations for subsequent penalties or issuing administrative fines for common offenses. Instead, officers will focus their resources on regulating traffic flow, minimizing congestion during peak hours, and educating the public to voluntarily comply with traffic laws. This is considered a "temporary solution" demonstrating empathy and flexibility in state management, prioritizing the immediate interests of citizens during this crisis.
Maintain discipline and long-term response scenarios.
Despite easing administrative penalties, the Cambodian government affirms that it will not relax social security. Strict night patrols are still maintained to control alcohol levels, weapons possession, and explosives to ensure the safety of citizens.
Alongside the suspension of penalties, Phnom Penh has also activated a roadmap to reduce import taxes on petroleum products. This coordinated series of solutions is expected to create momentum to cool down retail prices at gas stations, thereby alleviating difficulties for the transportation and manufacturing sectors.
The Cambodian government affirms that it will continue to closely monitor the situation to make appropriate adjustments, aiming for the ultimate goal of macroeconomic stability and social welfare. Amidst the ongoing "price surge" showing no signs of abating, self-reliance and flexibility in governance are the most important lifelines to help the Cambodian economy and people overcome this challenging period.
Observers believe this move demonstrates the Cambodian government's sensitivity and foresight in the face of external changes. However, the effectiveness of this policy still needs time to be verified, especially the challenge of balancing economic support with maintaining the self-awareness of road users in the context of an uncertain international market.
There is a situation where people on the border of Cambodia and Laos go to Vietnam to buy gasoline
An Dương14:27:19 09/03/2026While the price of A95 gasoline in Vietnam is being maintained at 27,047 VND/liter, looking at neighboring countries, this number is dancing at a sky-high level, especially Laos with a price of 39,000 VND/liter.
