In K-pop, there is a scary milestone called the "7-year curse", because few groups can survive that many years in the entertainment industry with the highest elimination rate in the world. Among them are the disbandments of 2NE1, GFriend and Lovelyz.
As for BlackPink, it has been two years since the album Born Pink, all four members are busy pursuing solo activities without any joint products. Therefore, the news that these groups will reunite once again with special projects and products has become a topic that attracts a lot of attention from the audience.
Becoming a new icon of K-pop with a series of "unprecedented" achievements, however, BlackPink regretfully did not renew their individual contracts with YG Entertainment. After separating, all four members of BlackPink had impressive solo activities, especially the "youngest" Lisa with two hit songs Rockstar and New woman.
However, because they are busy with their own projects, the famous girl group has not had any joint products since their second studio album Born Pink (August 2022). Understanding the fans' expectations, YG Entertainment recently announced that BlackPink will return as a complete group in 2025 and organize a global tour.
Although the detailed plan has not been revealed, the news of BlackPink's "merger" has quickly exploded on forums. Audiences are very hopeful to see the image of the four girls appearing on the same stage after a long time.
Another "fighter" of YG Entertainment also confirmed to reunite in October, that is the top group of generation 2 - 2NE1. In 2016, the owner of the hit song I am the best suddenly announced their disbandment, making fans regretful.
During their career, the group has had a series of hits that have taken the charts by storm, such as Go away, Fire, Lonely, I love you, Come back home... In 2017, Billboard magazine ranked 2NE1 as the number one K-pop girl group of the decade.
Not letting a legend disappear, on July 22, Yang Hyun Suk - president of YG Entertainment - announced that 2NE1 would return after seven years from the single Goodbye. This was the group's gift to fans on the occasion of their 15th debut anniversary.
In addition, 2NE1 also held concerts in Seoul (Korea), Tokyo and Osaka (Japan) this year (starting in October) and a world tour in 2025. The return of BlackPink and 2NE1 promises to bring huge profits to the "giant" YG Entertainment when both groups have been extremely successful in K-pop.
Both belong to the 3rd generation of K-pop, not pursuing the strong "girl crush" image like BlackPink, both GFriend and Lovelyz stand out with a youthful, sweet image. Especially GFriend, at the peak of their career, the group's music was played and covered continuously in schools because it carried a fresh and youthful breath.
However, without any signal, concert or farewell product for fans, the group regretfully disbanded in 2021. In fact, GFriend's disbandment is considered the fastest and most surprising in K-pop history. In response to the fans' affection, Source Music - GFriend's former management company - announced that the six members will return with a 10th anniversary project, marking the first official reunion since the disbandment.
"In January 2025, GFriend will celebrate their 10th anniversary with a special project for fans... The members' desire to create memorable memories for Buddy (GFriend's fandom name) led to this project" - Source Music wrote in the announcement.
Along with GFriend, girl group Lovelyz also announced plans to reunite to thank fans after 10 years of debut. Known for their sweet, youthful image, Lovelyz has brought hits such as Hi, Destiny and Ah-Choo throughout their career. However, the group disbanded after the members' contracts with Woollim Entertainment ended in 2021.
BLACKPINK "joins hands" with 2NE1 to revive YG, soon escape bankruptcy? Pinky06:42:07 12/08/2024The two groups BlackPink and 2NE1, with their upcoming projects announced, have made Kpop fans believe that the two groups may be the trump cards that will help YG escape the dark fate of the past year and rise from the brink of bankruptcy.
