3-year-old boy tragically died in kindergarten suspected of swallowing screws

Information that a 32-month-old boy in Ha Tinh was determined to die from swallowing screws that he picked up while studying at a kindergarten.

According to information from the People's Committee of Huong Tra commune, Huong Khe district, Ha Tinh province, a 3-year-old boy has just died of unknown cause at a kindergarten in the area.

Talking to the authorities, Mr. Tran Dinh Hung, Head of Education - Training Department of Huong Khe district, said that during his studies at the kindergarten, the boy NM (3 years old) lived in Bac Tra village, commune. Huong Tra unfortunately swallowed the screw that fell on the wall.

Immediately after the incident, H. Huong Khe Police also sent officers to Huong Tra Commune Kindergarten to examine the scene and work with related people to investigate the cause.

Mr. Tran Dinh Hung said: "During class at the kindergarten, the boy unfortunately swallowed the screw and died afterwards. Although Phong was seen by the doctors, the foreign body was a screw in his throat. According to the school's report, the screw that Phong accidentally swallowed may have fallen from one of the classroom furniture. Huong Tra commune has made a temporary decision to let Phong's two female teachers quit her job to stabilize her mind and make a report."

Besides, he also said that he had contacted the family of the dead child: "We are very sorry, now mass organizations have also visited and encouraged the family to overcome this pain. The authorities are also conducting an investigation to determine the cause of death."

Regarding the incident, Huong Khe District General Hospital informed that on the morning of November 17, the hospital received a patient who came to the emergency room in a state of cyanosis, no breathing and pulse, and dilated pupils. , predicted clinical death due to foreign body choking.

The doctors then proceeded to remove from Phong's pharynx a twisted screw, about 4cm long, 1-1.5cm in diameter (in the form of a table and chair screw). Despite being removed by the doctors, Phong still did not survive and was declared dead before being taken to the hospital.

A leader of Huong Khe District General Hospital said that with such a small size, the nail could not cover the breathing hole. However, it is possible that due to the reaction after swallowing the nail into the throat, causing laryngeal edema, the victim's airway is blocked leading to death.

Currently, Huong Khe district police agency is coordinating with functional units to continue investigating and clarifying the cause of the incident.
