YG Entertainment is currently facing a strong wave of criticism from the fan community when it is said to have "neglected" the girl group BABYMONSTER in its recent comeback.
Since announcing the comeback plan on August 18, the audience expects the company to organize a grand promotional campaign, because YG is famous for its ability to create strong media effects for its artists. However, everything happened completely contrary to the expectations of fans.
After the mini-album release schedule was moved from October 1 to October 10 to avoid the Korean Thanksgiving holiday, fans thought that YG had more time to prepare for a more thorough promotional campaign.
However, instead of launching a series of teasers, introductory videos or massive media activities, the company only released a few single posters and teasers of personal photos, lacking synchronization and investment. In particular, there are no music video teasers or audio samples announced, which is considered the minimum tool for the audience to grasp the musical style of the comeback.
The lack of information made fans feel disappointed and questioned YG's level of interest in BABYMONSTER. The only group poster released on October 1 shows the seven members, but other than that there is almost no noticeable promotional content.
Some of the other images are said to have been reused from the time of their debut or have similar designs to other artists' products in the same company, sparking controversy over a lack of creativity and serious investment.
The point that infuriated fans the most was the fact that member Ahyeon was placed at the edge of the poster, instead of the center as usual. Ahyeon is one of the prominent faces and is considered the "ace" of the group. This arrangement makes fans think that YG is deliberately "pushing her out of the spotlight". On social networks, the hashtag #RespectAhyeon quickly reached the top trend in many countries, expressing the frustration of global fans at the way the company treats their idols.
Meanwhile, the health situation of member Rami also worries the fan community. Rami has been suspended from May 2025 due to health reasons. Recently, during a fan signing, member Pharita revealed that Rami has not fully recovered but is in the process of treatment and hopes to return to the stage with the other members soon. This revelation made fans both emotional and worried about the group's situation, and at the same time hoped that YG would create better conditions for the members to recover and operate in a healthy environment.
Despite many limitations in promotion, BABYMONSTER's mini-album We Go Up is still highly appreciated for its music quality. The songs clearly show YG's typical style with modern sound, strong orchestration, and stable voices of the members. Many people think that the group has great potential to become the company's new "trump card", continuing the success that BLACKPINK has achieved.
However, fans think that potential will be difficult to promote if YG does not change its strategy. They hope that the company invests more methodically, from media to image, instead of letting the group create its own attraction with its own efforts.
BabyMonster Ahyeon reveals her ambition, not willing to stay behind Jennie Blackpink JLO15:34:00 12/10/2024Since her debut, Ahyeon has made a strong impression with her outstanding appearance and confident performance style, to the point that the online community affectionately calls her little Jennie, a younger version of her senior Jennie BLACKPINK.
