YG's two top music groups, BabyMonster and BlackPink, are preparing for a comeback, a grand comeback that will shake up Kpop. However, the managing unit, YG Entertainment, is facing many problems and the stock market is plummeting.
On July 30, NH Investment & Securities (the largest securities company in Korea) lowered YG Entertainment's stock price by 9% from 57,000 won (over 1 million VND) to 52,000 won (949 thousand VND). This stock's target price is calculated for the period from the second half of this year to the first half of next year.
According to NH, various activities of artists under YG will take place simultaneously during this period and are likely to increase labor and payment costs. "It is unprecedented for YG artists to carry out activities at the same time" - Researcher Lee Hwa Jung commented.
Previously, YG announced the "2025 YG Plan" announcing Blackpink's return next year and Baby Monster's first world tour. Besides, the company is also planning for 2NE1's reunion and world tour.
According to YG, Blackpink will hold an offline fan signing event to celebrate their 8th debut anniversary in August, and NH believes that the group's activities will generate significant interest. At the same time, this unit said, YG is benefiting from the increase of fandoms (fan communities) through the new group Baby Monster.
However, in the case of YG boy groups, because many rookies have debuted, the phenomenon of leaving the fandom is increasing. "Treasure's prospects have been adjusted cautiously. At this time, YG needs to launch a new boy group" - NH representative commented.
Along with that, the securities company said that YG's operating profit in the second quarter of this year is expected to decrease by 87% to 3.9 billion won (71.1 billion VND) compared to the same period last year. , in line with the consensus (average estimate from securities firms). Sales were also set at 107 billion won (1,953 billion VND), down 32%.
"Despite various artists' activities, such as Treasure's tour, Baby Monster's launch promotional activities continued in the second quarter, leading to a burden of initial costs.
In addition, the increase in intangible asset depreciation due to some artists renewing their contracts last year will also negatively impact YG's revenue performance" - Researcher Lee added.
YG's decline became apparent after BLACKPINK members ended their individual contracts and established their own companies. Experts say that YG completely lost form during the time BLACKPINK suspended activities. With the current situation, it will take until 2025 for the global girl group to be able to arrange personal schedules to prepare group products. Besides, the fact that G-Dragon left YG at the end of last year was also a big blow.
In fact, YG is still regularly implementing the activities of its artists. Rookie BABYMONSTER proves his ability to tour with his first sold-out Asian tour. YG has a stable source of income even though it cannot achieve huge profits like in its heyday.
Not to mention, the record revenue of World Tour Born Pink is up to 331 million dollars. The profit from this is enough for YG to maintain its position as BIG4 Kpop. In addition, the 4 girls' commercial items still sell like hotcakes and are sold out regularly. The most special thing is the possibility of BLACKPINK's return.
The group is expected to make a comeback after the 4 members complete their individual activities this year. BLACKPINK releasing an album and going on a new tour will definitely be an "explosion" in the music industry. This has been guaranteed in the group's re-signed contract, so fans can completely trust BLACKPINK.
