Recently, the Supreme People's Procuracy has just issued an indictment prosecuting Ms. Truong My Lan (chairman of Van Thinh Phat Group) and 85 defendants in a case that occurred at Van Thinh Phat Group, SCB Bank and other units. , related organizations. In particular, Ms. Truong My Lan was prosecuted for crimes such as: property embezzlement, bribery and violating lending regulations in the operations of credit institutions.

The remaining 85 defendants include 45 former leaders and officers of Saigon Commercial Joint Stock Bank - SCB; 15 former State Bank officials; 3 former Government Inspectorate officers; A former State Audit officer was prosecuted by the Supreme People's Procuracy for the following crimes: property embezzlement, bribery, abuse of position and power while performing official duties, irresponsibility causing serious consequences and violating regulations on banking operations. Among them, 5 defendants are former SCB leaders who are wanted. The People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City has issued a notice calling for 5 high-ranking defendants to surrender to enjoy the leniency policy of the Party and government. water.

Of the above 86 defendants, Ms. Truong My Lan and 12 defendants were prosecuted by the Supreme People's Procuracy and sentenced to 20 years in prison, life imprisonment or the death penalty.

Also according to the indictment, throughout the investigation process, Ms. Truong My Lan did not show remorse and did not honestly declare her crime. According to the records, although she does not directly hold executive power, Ms. Lan owns 91.5% of SCB's shares through other individuals. So in reality, the defendant still has the "power" to dominate, direct, and operate absolutely all activities of SCB.

After the successful acquisition, Truong My Lan directed bank leaders to coordinate with key officials at Van Thinh Phat to withdraw money from the bank in the form of disbursement for false loan applications. From 2012 to 2022, SCB disburses to 1,366 customers with a total disbursement amount of more than 1,066,000 billion VND. The amount of money SCB lent to Ms. Lan's group accounted for 93%, the remaining 7% were for regular customers.

To legalize the withdrawal and avoid being traced by the police, Ms. Lan instructed SCB officials to transfer disbursed money to ghost companies, then withdraw cash to cut off the cash flow. From February 2018 to October 2022, Ms. Lan directed the preparation of 916 SCB loan applications worth 545,000 billion VND and appropriated 304,000 billion VND.

In order to hide SCB's weaknesses and violations so that they would not be discovered by inspectors and put under special control, Ms. Truong My Lan directed her subordinates to give defendant Do Thi Thanh Nhan 5.2 million USD. and give money and gifts to members of the inspection team.

As for Ms. Nhan, she was accused of receiving 5.2 million USD from SCB to direct her subordinates to report and issue draft inspection conclusions that were not objective, honest, and not true to SCB's financial situation. cover up and cover up the violations of this "bank".

On March 5, the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City will begin the trial of defendant Truong My Lan and 85 other defendants. Currently, this case is receiving great attention from the public and waiting for the final decision of the People's Court.
