After the previous failed arrest, Oanh "Ha" was finally caught and accuse.d of running a 1,400 billion VND drug ring. However, the "boss" denied all accusations against her.
On December 26, at the first instance trial of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court, the panel of judges tried defendant Vu Hoang Oanh (67 years old, also known as Oanh "Ha") and 34 other defendants for the crimes of "Illegal trading of banned substances", "Illegal transportation of banned substances" and "Illegal possession of banned substances", allowing the representative of the Procuracy to present their views on resolving the case.
The representative of the Procuracy proposed that the panel of judges sentence defendant Vu Hoang Oanh and 27 accomplices to deat.h, 5 other defendants in the case were proposed to be sentenced to life imprisonment and 2 other defendants were proposed to be sentenced to 20 years in prison. According to the representative of the Procuracy, this was a particularly serious, transnational case of illegal transportation, trading and storage of banned substances, involving Vietnamese people living abroad in collusion with domestic subjects.
The Procuracy argued that, although at the trial, the defendant Vu Hoang Oanh stated that she did not receive the decision to prosecute, did not illegally trade in prohibited substances, and did not know the other defendants. However, through the records and evidence in the case, the representative of the Procuracy affirmed that the indictment against the defendant was the right person, the right crime, and there was no injustice.
"Defendant Vo Hoang Oanh did not admit to the crime, so defendant Oanh will not be eligible for the circumstances of sincere confession and repentance" - said the representative of the Procuracy.
At the trial on December 25, defendant Vu Hoang Oanh stated that she had not received the indictment and had not committed any crime. In response to the prosecutor's accusations of her leading role in the drug trafficking ring, defendant Oanh denied everything. She said that from August 2018 to the end of 2019, she suffered a stroke and had to be treated in the hospital. After being discharged from the hospital, she went to Cambodia and was arrested there, so she affirmed that she could not have committed the acts as accuse.d.
According to the case file, in 2018, the Ministry of Public Security dismantled a drug ring led by Oanh "Ha". At that time, the defendant fled and was internationally wanted. After two trials, the High People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City sentenced five of Ms. Oanh's accomplices to deat.h. This verdict has come into legal effect.
Responding to the court's verdict that her five accomplices were sentenced to deat.h, defendant Oanh said that they were only security guards for her casino in Cambodia and had nothing to do with the drug trafficking. However, during the trial, the other defendants testified that they had transported and traded drug.s under the direct direction of the "boss".
Vu Hoang Oanh was accuse.d of being the mastermind and leader of a transnational drug ring, directly organizing and directing the transportation and trading of large quantities of drug.s from Cambodia to Vietnam. She was also identified as the older sister of Dung "Ha" - a character involved in the Nam Cam case.
From 2019 to 2022, Oanh operated a drug trafficking ring from Cambodia to localities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Nam Dinh, Hanoi and neighboring provinces. Initially, she directly hired Nguyen Van Nam (born in 1990, residing in Hai Phong) to transport heroi.n from Cambodia to Ho Chi Minh City to deliver to customers.
Then, in Ho Chi Minh City, Oanh hired Nguyen Anh Bao Quoc (born in 1990, residing in Ho Chi Minh City) to receive illegal substances from Nguyen Duy Khanh (born in 1960, residing in Kien Giang) or directly receive old car gearboxes containing illegal substances inside. These gearboxes were then dismantled to extract illegal substances, hidden or delivered to Nam and other customers in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring areas.
In the North, Oanh "Ha" directed Nam to transport banned substances from Ho Chi Minh City to Hai Phong, receiving them from car gearboxes or directly from a woman in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City. These banned substances were hidden in Hai Phong before being delivered to customers in northern provinces such as Nam Dinh and Hanoi.
According to the prosecution, the defendants successfully transported a total of 129 used car gearboxes containing banned substances from Cambodia to Vietnam. Each trip removed about 50kg from the gearboxes. This ring smuggled more than 600kg of various banned substances from Cambodia to Vietnam for consumption, with a total transaction value estimated at about 1,400 billion VND.
