When Journey to the West 1986 aired, Wang Fenghe's role as Ba La Sat received much praise from the audience. Wang Fenghe's genuine, emotional, and unpretentious acting style is still considered the most beautiful and successful.
According to Sohu, the 1986 Journey to the West series has been broadcast in China more than 3,000 times, so the characters and actors are familiar and deeply imprinted in the minds of the general audience. These roles have all become irreplaceable legends, a measure for actors who reprise the same character.
Princess Iron Fan is one of the female characters that made a strong impression in Journey to the West 1986. Although she is a villain, Lady La Sat makes Sun Wukong respect her and face many difficulties.
Among the beautiful women in Journey to the West 1986, Princess Iron Fan, played by actress Wang Fenghe, satisfied director Yang Jie the most.
"Wang Fenghe is one of the actors I like the most. She acts professionally, has a high work ethic, and doesn't mind hardships," director Yang Jie praised Wang Fenghe. The reason is that the filming location for "Three Borrows of Ba Xiao Fan" is harsh, but Wang Fenghe cooperated very well with the film crew.
In fact, this was the only TV series in Wang Fenghe's life, but it helped the female artist have a memorable role that will be remembered for the next 38 years. Later, Chinese cinema also remade Journey to the West and the scene where Sun Wukong borrowed Princess Iron Fan's Ba Xiao fan many times, but no one played the role of Lady La Sat better than Wang Fenghe, including the beautiful cast of stars such as Han Xue, Tran Kieu An, Tran Tu Chau, Ho Kha, and Ta Nam. Currently, the public and the media still use Wang Fenghe's image in Journey to the West whenever they mention the character of Princess Iron Fan, which shows that the role was so successful that it went deep into the audience's subconscious.
Wang Fengxia was born in 1955 in Jilin Province, China and has had a passion for art since childhood. She is an excellent actress of the Jilin Provincial Peking Opera Institute. The actress has an outstanding appearance, excellent singing and performing abilities, and is a first-class national actress in China. In the field of Peking Opera, Wang Fengxia was once a shining name in the art scene of the billion-people country, a student of acting masters.
Wang Fenghe had the chance to play Princess Iron Fan in 1983, when she also played the role in the Peking Opera Fire Mountain. Director Yang Jie admired Wang Fenghe's acting talent and invited her to participate in Journey to the West in 1986.
According to Sohu, although Vuong Phung Ha's role in Journey to the West 1986 was not much, the actress's excellent acting ability helped the character become lively, rich in emotions, and with complex, multi-dimensional psychology.
Princess Iron Fan was the wife of the Bull Demon King and the mother of the Red Boy. She possessed the Ba Xiao fan. This was a powerful weapon, originally used to fan the fire in the Eight Trigrams Alchemy Furnace of the Supreme Elder Lord. The Ba Xiao fan originated in Kunlun Mountain. Since the beginning of time, one fan would extinguish the fire, two would bring wind, three would bring rain. When attacking a person, it could send the opponent flying thousands of miles away, and it could be enlarged or reduced.
Princess Iron Fan was originally a compassionate person, and once helped the people of Fire Mountain put out the fire, so even though she was a monster, she was still called "princess". However, because the Bull Demon King was a womanizer, she also had a hot temper.
In Journey to the West 1986, Vuong Phung Ha used her acting talent to create a character that was both proud, stubborn and pitiful. She hated Ton Ngo Khong for forcing her son to serve Bodhisattva, and was miserable because her husband betrayed her. This character, though formidable, did not make the audience hate her.
After Journey to the West aired, Wang Fenghe's name quickly became famous throughout China.
The actress once shared on a TV show in 1990: "I feel that life is so short. Having a happy family, a good job, a role that people remember, I feel very lucky. Life is not wasted."
However, unfortunately, the actress was diagnosed with breast cancer. In 1989, Vuong Phung Ha underwent radiation therapy and her health seriously declined.
She breathed her last on May 11, 1993, at the age of 38.
The death of Vuong Phung Ha shocked her relatives, friends and the audience. A friend of hers in the Journey to the West film crew shared: "In 1989, we went to Jilin with the Journey to the West crew. She invited us to her house for dinner. She looked really healthy, who would have thought that less than 4 years later, she would pass away."
The actress married her colleague Liu Xiliang, her co-star in the play Fire Mountain. When his wife passed away, the actor remained single to honor his wife.
