Park Bom was once the vocal icon of 2NE1, with her soaring, emotional voice and masterful technique contributing to the group's global phenomenon. However, in recent years, her career seems to be in a regrettable decline.
Instead of delivering quality music, her appearances are often associated with controversies, scandals, and strange behavior on social media – most notably her constant referring to Lee Min Ho as her "husband." These developments have led the public to worry about the mental health of the singer once dubbed the "golden voice" of K-pop.
Park Bom, born in 1984, was once one of the most outstanding vocalists in the Korean music industry. She joined YG Entertainment in 2006 and officially debuted with 2NE1 in 2009. With their unique, strong, and distinctive style, the group quickly became an icon of the second generation of K-pop girl groups.
With her powerful soprano voice, distinctive vibrato, and ability to handle high notes with emotion, she left an indelible mark on fans through a series of classic 2NE1 songs. Park Bom particularly shone with her solo song "You and I," which achieved a Perfect All-Kill and became one of the best-selling songs of 2009.
Thanks to Park Bom, 2NE1 not only dominated the domestic market but also conquered international audiences with global tours, major awards such as the MTV Video Music Awards Japan, and A-list star status for many years. Mentioning 2NE1, audiences can immediately groove to the melodies of Fire, I Am The Best, I Don't Care...
However, Park Bom's career path now seems to be overshadowed by past scandals, the pressures of the entertainment industry, and controversial personal actions. Her career began to seriously falter after the 2014 drug scandal, when she was accused of smuggling amphetamine from the United States. Although she was later cleared of the charges, stating she was using prescription medication, the incident forced her to suspend her activities for nearly five years – a period that led to the disbandment of 2NE1.
In 2019, upon her return, Park Bom continuously faced criticism regarding her changed appearance, suspicions of plastic surgery, and pressure from public opinion. She frequently posted distorted and bizarre selfies on social media, causing intense controversy. During the 2NE1 reunion, she was often absent or had to leave the stage midway due to health reasons, such as at the Manila concert in November 2024. These incidents worried fans and raised questions about her true health.
The latest drama peaked in October 2025, when Park Bom publicly posted documents suing YG Entertainment's chairman, Yang Hyun Suk, for a staggering $4.5 trillion in compensation, accusing him of fraud and embezzlement of income from her group's activities. The documents were quickly deleted, then reposted with the message "Park Bom hates YG." Her current management company immediately denied the allegations, stating that no official lawsuit had been filed and that Park Bom was focusing on treatment and recovery. However, the incident continued to cause a public uproar.
Park Bom shocks everyone by filing a lawsuit against YG Chairman Yang Hyun Suk for an unimaginable sum of money.
The biggest controversy surrounding Park Bom recently has been her constant reliance on Lee Min Ho's fame. Starting in September 2024, she repeatedly posted photos of Lee Min Ho on Instagram with captions like "My husband." Initially, many thought she was just an enthusiastic fangirl, but then she created several more accounts (a total of three), adamantly asserting "He is my husband" and continuing to post photos of Lee Min Ho, leading to much speculation.
At this point, the management company of the male star from Boys Over Flowers was forced to issue an official statement: "Lee Min Ho has no personal relationship with Park Bom. All rumors are baseless." Despite this, Park Bom continued to repost the old content, even unfollowing all 2NE1 members and staff, only keeping Lee Min Ho on social media.
The allegations of drug trafficking were the biggest blow to Park Bom's career.
This behavior has been labeled by netizens on social media forums and Korean news sites as "delusional fan behavior" that has gone beyond acceptable limits, even showing signs of harassment. Lee Min Ho's fans expressed their weariness and frustration, while some 2NE1 fans even demanded that Park Bom be removed from the group to protect the group's image. From bizarre images and major lawsuits to self-delusional posts about Lee Min Ho, all of this has left many feeling regretful for a once brilliant talent.
From August 2025, Park Bom officially suspended all activities due to medical instructions. Her agency described her condition as "very emotionally unstable, difficult to communicate normally" and requiring urgent rest and treatment. Her Instagram posts during this period mainly consisted of selfies with heavy makeup, strange images, or unclear content, further increasing concerns among fans.
Many believe that pressure from the K-pop entertainment industry – including past scandals, criticism of her appearance and age, and prolonged psychological burdens – pushed her into this situation. Although 2NE1 continued to perform with three members, CL, Dara, and Minzy, Park Bom's absence left the concerts lacking a crucial element.
Park Bom has been consistently referring to Lee Min Ho as "husband" on her personal social media account for some time now.
To date, Park Bom has shown no signs of returning to music. She has no plans for a new album, no performances, and only sporadic updates on social media. Now, the public no longer expects a spectacular comeback but only hopes she will soon recover her health, find peace, and rediscover herself. Park Bom deserves a second chance – but first, she needs time to recover and the necessary support from those around her.
