From 8 to 12 hours later, 3 people in turn showed signs of abdominal pain, vomiting, and loose stools, the level getting worse and worse. The patients were transferred to a local hospital and moved to Ho Chi Minh City on 6/6.
During the hospital transfer, the husband suffered from shortness of breath, respiratory failure, was intubated, and inflated the balloon. However, he died at the Emergency Department, Cho Ray Hospital. The wife and daughter were transferred to the Department of Tropical Diseases in a state of acute liver failure, very high liver enzymes accompanied by coagulation disorders.
"We suspect these symptoms are caused by poisoning after eating mushrooms. However, what mushroom poisoning and which toxins are not confirmed, need more time to exploit from the family," said Dr. Ngan. told the press.
After two days of treatment, the 17-year-old daughter improved but had to monitor her liver function and coagulation disorders further. Meanwhile, the wife is still in critical condition, liver dysfunction worsens. Patients are actively treated with dialysis but are at risk of more severe, difficult prognosis.
According to the sharing, the patient couple often picked mushrooms to eat and said that they had experience in distinguishing. However, doctors advise people to be very careful when eating wild mushrooms because of the risk of confusion leading to poisoning.
