In early July, Vietnam Breast Cancer Network (abbreviated BCNV) received a special set of hair to be sent to the hair library for cancer patients.

According to verification, the above special hair belongs to an old woman living in Hanoi, whose real name is Pham Thi Lan. She donated the hair that had accompanied her for 93 years of her life to cancer patients, which was widely shared by the online community. The hair of more than 90 years of the life of "grandmother"

Although Lan is old, her appearance is still very agile, always with a gentle smile. Currently, her white, salt and pepper, ivory hair is only h.anging down to her shoulders, but few people know that a month ago, her hair was tied up to her calves with many rings. Her hair has been kept by her since she was a g.irl, only washed with locust or herbal oil. During the past 93 years, she only cut her hair 2-3 times when it was frizzy or too long.

"Grandma never thought to cut her hair. She is a traditional woman, the idea that girls need to have long and black hair - which is the standard for female beauty in general", Ms. Do Tuyet Minh, 34 years old, grandson Lan, said.

The day before, while watching TV about the cancer program, Mrs. Lan involuntarily asked: "Why does the patient have no hair?".

Ms. Minh explained: "They are cancer patients, hair loss due to radiation and chemotherapy".

Lan just kept silent.

At a family meeting, Ms. Minh told members about the Vietnam Breast Cancer Network's hair library program. She came up with the idea of "inviting" her grandmother to donate her hair to cancer patients. Before that, the family also advised him to cut his hair many times to facilitate living in life.

"After the program about cancer patients without hair, "grandmother" loved and sympathized with them. Therefore, when I talked about donating hair, she didn't think about it, but immediately agreed," recalls Ms. Minh.

The family carefully learns about hair donation standards, such as: Natural hair length from 25cm; before cutting, hair should be washed and dried for better preservation; Donated hair must be bundled (tied, braided, braided) into sets.

On July 1, relatives washed Mrs. Lan's hair clean, dried it and combed it neatly. Long hair is tied in a ponytail, customize the tie to the position you want to cut. The hair more than 50cm after cutting is tied tightly, braided, neatly packed, sent by courier to the hair library.

"The hair that has been with her for more than 90 years of her life, is the most beautiful hair I have ever seen, now she cuts it to give to cancer patients. To me, she is the most beautiful person in the world," said Ms. Minh. share, hope her hair is used usefully.

Lan is from Thanh Hoa and moved with her family to Hanoi 5 years ago. She lives with her daughter's family and grandchildren.

The Hair Library is one of three programs to support cancer patients of the Vietnam Breast Cancer Network, which was initiated in 2015.
