In early July, Vietnam Breast Cancer Network (abbreviated BCNV) received a special set of hair to be sent to the hair library for cancer patients.

Braided hair, smooth white, interspersed with black strands, more than 50cm long and well wrapped in paper packaging.

The hair is so beautiful that BCNV members thought it was dyed or bleached hair. After contacting the donor again, they were even more surprised and moved with the story behind.

According to verification, the above special hair belongs to an old woman living in Hanoi, whose real name is Pham Thi Lan. She donated the hair that had accompanied her for 93 years of her life to cancer patients, which was widely shared by the online community. Many people say that the old woman is both beautiful and has the heart of "the most beautiful in the world".

The hair of more than 90 years of the life of "grandmother"

Although Lan is old, her appearance is still very agile, always with a gentle smile. Currently, her white, salt and pepper, ivory hair is only hanging down to her shoulders, but few people know that a month ago, her hair was tied up to her calves with many rings. Her hair has been kept by her since she was a girl, only washed with locust or herbal oil. During the past 93 years, she only cut her hair 2-3 times when it was frizzy or too long.

"Grandma never thought to cut her hair. She is a traditional woman, the idea that girls need to have long and black hair - which is the standard for female beauty in general", Ms. Do Tuyet Minh, 34 years old, grandson Lan, said.

The day before, while watching TV about the cancer program, Mrs. Lan involuntarily asked: "Why does the patient have no hair?".

Ms. Minh explained: "They are cancer patients, hair loss due to radiation and chemotherapy".

Lan just kept silent.

At a family meeting, Ms. Minh told members about the Vietnam Breast Cancer Network's hair library program. She came up with the idea of "inviting" her grandmother to donate her hair to cancer patients. Before that, the family also advised him to cut his hair many times to facilitate living in life.

"After the program about cancer patients without hair, "grandmother" loved and sympathized with them. Therefore, when I talked about donating hair, she didn't think about it, but immediately agreed," recalls Ms. Minh.

The family carefully learns about hair donation standards, such as: Natural hair length from 25cm; before cutting, hair should be washed and dried for better preservation; Donated hair must be bundled (tied, braided, braided) into sets.

On July 1, relatives washed Mrs. Lan's hair clean, dried it and combed it neatly. Long hair is tied in a ponytail, customize the tie to the position you want to cut. The hair more than 50cm after cutting is tied tightly, braided, neatly packed, sent by courier to the hair library.

"The hair that has been with her for more than 90 years of her life, is the most beautiful hair I have ever seen, now she cuts it to give to cancer patients. To me, she is the most beautiful person in the world," said Ms. Minh. share, hope her hair is used usefully.

She took a commemorative photo, sent it to the family group, excitedly showing off "she has lost her hair". Unexpectedly, thanks to this moment, "grandmother" Lan suddenly became famous on social networking forums.

No longer long hair reaching her heels, Mrs. Lan suddenly touched her head and stroked her new shoulder-length hair. Although he was a little disappointed, he said he had no regrets. Sometimes, due to old age and absent-mindedness, he would ask his children and grandchildren "where has the hair gone?". When she heard that "hair is for cancer patients", she was very happy.

The family had planned to sell her hair, but the money received did not make them richer or poorer. Instead, the beautiful hair is donated to the hair library, which will inspire and motivate cancer "warriors".

"Everyone wants to be beautiful, even cancer patients. We hope that her hair will help patients be more optimistic and fight the disease strongly," Ms. Minh said.

Lan is from Thanh Hoa and moved with her family to Hanoi 5 years ago. She lives with her daughter's family and grandchildren.

In the past, because he did not want to disturb his children and grandchildren, he was active in all personal activities and activities. However, after the grandmother fell in the toilet while urinating at night, the family decided to divide the family members to stay by her side to take care of her every day.

Poor health, Mrs. Lan just lies or sits in one place, restricting movement. At the weekend, the children and grandchildren gather in large numbers, the warm atmosphere of the family helps him to be more alert and happy.

Every time they have the opportunity to go out, relatives will buy and buy special specialties or country cakes (cakes made with soy sauce, rolls can, rice cakes). "Grandpa" is very happy and eats well, the spirit is high.

The Hair Library is one of three programs to support cancer patients of the Vietnam Breast Cancer Network, which was initiated in 2015.

According to statistics, up to now, there have been 14,000 hair donors, more than 1,200 sets of hair have been sent to patients at medical facilities as well as hospitals with oncology departments across the country. Every time they receive hair, cancer patients are very happy and excited.
