Thach Thu Thao: Khmer runner-up, overcomes difficult circumstances, becomes poorer when competing in beauty pageants

Runner-up Thach Thu Thao is no longer a strange name to Vietnamese beauty fans. Step by step affirming her position in the fashion industry, the Khmer beauty has become a sought-after name, appearing continuously on high-class catwalks.

Thach Thu Thao is a Khmer ethnic, born in 2001, 1m77 tall. She was a student majoring in Linguistics at Nam Can Tho University. After being crowned 2nd Runner-up of "Miss Ethnic Vietnam 2022", she spent a lot of time training her body and skills and especially actively participated in meaningful community activities. In the same year, she was selected to represent Vietnam in the Miss Earth contest.

Always trying hard throughout the journey to compete in the Philippines. In the final night, Thach Thu Thao successfully brought Vietnam into the top 20. Although there were many regrets, but with being in the top among nearly a hundred contestants, Thach Thu Thao also made a lot of effort and tried hard.

Born into a family of three siblings in Tra Vinh, Thach Thu Thao is always proud of being Khmer. She believes this is a unique feature, creating an interesting recognition in the eyes of the audience. After returning from the international competition, Thach Thu Thao initially continued her studies, while also regularly going to castings to look for opportunities to perform. Her efforts are also recognized, because few beauties with titles are as hard-working as Thach Thu Thao.

"I studied English Language because I wanted to become a tour guide. Since I was a c.hild, I dreamed of exploring the world. But since I won the Miss Student a.ward at Nam Can Tho University, I think I changed my mind and entered the entertainment industry," she said about her studies.

The beauty said she always adheres to the motto of "never rest on your laurels" to strive to become a better version of herself every day. The runner-up added: "After graduating, I plan to pursue a career as a professional model, not only domestically but also internationally."

Every week, Thach Thu Thao has to travel by bus from Can Tho to Ho Chi Minh City to participate in events and other activities.

"At first, it was quite tiring and stressful, but after a while, I got used to it. I always choose to attend events on days when I don't have classes, or ask my teachers to let me study subjects with other classes in advance to avoid missing any classes due to the nature of my work," she said.

She once shared about her life after winning the title and competing internationally, especially in a big competition like Miss Earth. Thach Thu Thao said: "My life after Miss Earth certainly received some attention from everyone, both positive and negative. For positive comments, I still keep them for myself as motivation to try harder. As for negative comments, I try to absorb them to change every day, hoping that everyone will see my progress and support me", the model born in 2001 shared.

Talking about the issue of "changing one's life" after winning impressive achievements in beauty contests, the 22-year-old beauty honestly said: "Have you heard that after competing in beauty pageants, you will be poorer than before? I am in that case but now it has improved. The time before was quite difficult but now I can take care of myself comfortably, and can cover my daily life." She refused to reveal her current salary and expressed: "I work as a normal model and my salary needs are still the same as everyone else."

Thach Thu Thao shared that she still maintains a simple lifestyle, spends moderately and does not use branded goods. "I find that normal, as long as I still feel comfortable and confident with my appearance, using branded goods or anything like that is not very important to me. People can see that I am a very simple g.irl, never using branded goods, but every time I go out, I am still very confident with myself," the Khmer beauty confided.

Thach Thu Thao admitted that she is currently single and enjoying a free life. Referring to the relationship between models and tycoons, which is subject to many prejudices, the 10X beauty frankly expressed her opinion: "For me, when I meet someone I have feelings for, and the two sides come together out of love, that is normal. The opinion about models and tycoons is the same. Once a 'model' gets to know a tycoon, truly loves that person and that person loves her too, then why don't the two of them move forward and are afraid of the model pairing up with a tycoon?"

The runner-up from Tra Vinh confided: "I don't want to be a person who stays in one place. The title of runner-up or representing Vietnam at Miss Earth is a great honor, but I also don't want to rest on my laurels and always look for opportunities for myself." Thu Thao said that is the reason why she has recently appeared continuously at model castings and has been fortunate to be loved and given opportunities by designers.

Thach Thu Thao said that when participating in a fashion show, she does not care about the position of vedette or first face but wants to do her role well. "When I choose to work in the modeling field, I do not care about any position. When the designer chooses a certain position for me, I am definitely a part of that collection and have meaning to that collection. So I am very happy," the young model added.
