Sing! Asia: Dan Truong makes Phuong My Chi fade away, To Huu Bang is shocked by 1 thing

At the stopover in Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh) within the framework of the Sing! Asia 2025 program, singer Dan Truong had the opportunity to meet actor To Huu Bang, along with diva Truong Luong Dinh.

Three artists take on the role of main judges with the task of choosing the winning contestant at the Vietnam station, also known as the "station king".

When introduced by the MC, Dan Truong smiled brightly but could not hide his nervousness. The program even added effects to highlight his slightly shaking hands - a detail that showed the singer's awkwardness when standing in front of his former idol.

The greeting between the two "ageless male gods" was quite awkward. When Su You Peng wondered why Dan Truong knew him, the singer of "Kiep Ve Sau" replied that he had watched movies starring Su You Peng more than 20 years ago. The answer surprised the Chinese actor and he humorously retorted: "More than 20 years ago? I'm only 27 years old."

Despite maintaining his youthful appearance, age seems to be a sensitive topic for Su You Peng. He also reacted similarly when singer Phuong My Chi shared that he was a part of her childhood memories through the series Hoan Chau Cach Cach.

However, it is these playful statements that help the artists become closer. Dan Truong asked To Huu Bang to sing a duet with him in the song Biet Khuc Cho Nhau, the soundtrack of the movie Tan Dong Song Ly Biet (2001). In the impromptu performance, Dan Truong performed the Vietnamese lyrics arranged by musician Le Quang, while To Huu Bang sang the original version in Chinese.

This is not the first time Dan Truong has performed this song with a Chinese star. In 2001, in the program Vietnam - China - Friendship Messenger, he sang this song with Trieu Vy - who performed the original song in the movie.

After the show, Dan Truong shared with the press that he was a bit confused when working with a foreign star for the first time, but felt happy because the two became closer, sometimes texting to discuss work.

At the Vietnam station, Phuong My Chi was the opening contestant with the performance Buôn Trăng, inspired by the poem Day Thôn Vĩ Dạ by Hàn Mặc Tử. She impressed the judges with the harmonious combination of her soulful voice, costumes imbued with the identity of the three regions, and a surprise martial arts performance.

Immediately after, Chinese contestant Chu Phi Ca suddenly took the stage, performing a soulful ballad to directly challenge Phuong My Chi. During the judging session, Dan Truong chose Phuong My Chi, while Truong Luong Dinh and To Huu Bang leaned towards Chu Phi Ca.

Despite being behind in the first round, Phuong My Chi still won the final round with 15 votes from online judges, overwhelmingly compared to 6 votes for Chu Phi Ca.

An online judge representative commented: "I vote for Phuong My Chi. She has a traditional singing style mixed with modern electronic elements. Her uniqueness, stability and personality are very clear."

Dan Truong's choice of a fellow countryman has raised suspicions of bias. However, he affirmed that he always prioritizes impartiality when sitting on the judge's chair. "When accepting to participate in the program, I always carefully consider the value I can bring. This time is no exception. I see this as an opportunity to learn from young artists from many countries, as well as to renew myself in art.

As a judge, I put aside personal relationships to make the most objective assessment. But I also hope that the audience will recognize Phuong My Chi's efforts and talent and support both of them in their upcoming journey," he shared.

However, some controversies still broke out on social networks. Some viewers thought that Dan Truong's outstanding appearance had somewhat overshadowed the young contestant. The veteran singer's appeal was said to be so great that "every second he appeared on screen caused a sensation", making Phuong My Chi, even a contestant, somewhat wary.
