The cancellation of a large-scale concert featuring works by four legendary Vietnamese musicians in Hanoi just before it was scheduled to begin is causing a public uproar. On the morning of December 30th, Music Director Vu Quang Trung officially stated the three reasons for the sudden cancellation.
The show cancellation "shock" and the organizers' inexplicable attitude.
On the evening of December 28th, thousands of audience members at the Hanoi venue were stunned to receive the sudden announcement that the "Come Here, Four Wings of the Sky" show had been postponed. Notably, just hours earlier, representatives from Ngoc Viet Company had affirmed in the press that "there was no cancellation of the show" and that the ticket sales system was still operating diligently until the very last minute.
The situation escalated on the morning of December 30th when musician Vu Quang Trung – the project's music director – posted a lengthy open letter exposing the shortcomings behind the scenes.
3 core reasons why the show "fell apart"
According to musician Vu Quang Trung, there are three main reasons why the artists' team had to stop: Copyright issues: The works of composers Trinh Cong Son and Van Cao have not been licensed for performance. The copyright holder even sent an email requesting the singers not to use these songs. This is a serious legal violation that the organizers did not thoroughly address.
Financial contract breach: The representatives repeatedly missed payment deadlines. The 50% deposit was delayed by more than 10 days, and subsequent payments were also ignored despite the musicians and band having completed a massive amount of work.
Lack of organizational resources: With over 30 works, 10 singers, and nearly 100 musicians, the program requires at least 3 months of preparation. However, the project only started in November 2025. The lack of funding and poor organization mean that the artistic quality is not guaranteed.
Composer Vu Quang Trung emphasized: "The organizers should have proactively postponed the event earlier instead of continuing to sell tickets until the last minute, deceiving the audience's trust."
Artists overcome difficulties but are powerless.
Stage director Vu Hong Thang and stars such as Diva Hong Nhung, Tran Manh Tuan, Pham Thu Ha... have expressed their extreme disappointment. It is known that many artists had personally paid for plane tickets from the US or Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi and seriously rehearsed with the children's choir, despite the producer not having fulfilled their financial obligations.
Although the stage, sound, and lighting were ready for the dress rehearsal on the morning of December 28th, legal violations and a lack of transparency from the organizers prevented the concert from taking place.
Strong reaction from the authorities.
On the afternoon of December 29th, following a wave of criticism, the organizer, Ngoc Viet, issued an apology and promised a refund within 10 days. However, the explanation of "unforeseen circumstances" was deemed unconvincing and an attempt to evade responsibility.
The incident has attracted attention from both the public and regulatory authorities. At 5:15 PM on December 29th, the Government Information Portal officially confirmed that the organizing unit bears legal responsibility for unilaterally postponing the show at the last minute. Authorities have requested the organizing unit to promptly resolve the rights of the audience and related parties, and to be held accountable under the law.
Hong Nhung speaks out about the last-minute show cancellation, not yet receiving payment, and audience members reporting to the police.
Linh Thảo15:27:13 29/12/2025The sudden postponement of the "Come Here, Four Sky Birds" program, with the auditorium already packed with audience members, has angered netizens. Speaking out for the first time, singer Hong Nhung shared her heartbreak, revealing that the artists had not received their fees and that audience members even called the police, believing they...
