Although it did not directly cause the noise of O Huyen and Quang Linh Vlog, Founder Pham Ngoc Anh Tung of FoodMap - the distribution unit that cooperates with Hang Du Muc to sell durian, was seriously affected.
On July 7, TikToker Hang Du Muc's livestream witnessed a record in a livestream session selling agricultural products when 20 tons of durians were sold in just 30 minutes.
However, the evening livestream session was reacted by many users due to the supposedly "uncharming" statements of durian gardener, TikToker Nguyen Thai Huyen (O Huyen Sau Rieng) when participating in sales.
Amidst the controversy, FoodMap Asia - the distribution unit that cooperated with Hang Du Muc to sell durian during the livestream session on July 7 - was also called out by users, rated 1 star, and called on to cancel orders. Currently, on the TikTok Shop channel of this unit and O Huyen Sau Duong, the products have been hidden.
According to research, UFO Technology and Trading Company Limited is the managing unit of FoodMap Asia, established in August 2017 with a charter capital of 1 billion VND. Mr. Pham Ngoc Anh Tung holds the position of Director and legal representative, contributing 400 million VND, holding 40% of the shares. The remaining 3 shareholders are Nguyen Duc May, Tran Cong Tien and Pham Son Loc, each contributing 200 million VND and holding 20% of the shares.
Among them, Pham Ngoc Anh Tung's entrepreneurial journey received the attention of many people.
With national pride when seeing that Vietnamese agricultural products, although both delicious and healthy, not only lose on the away field but also on the home field, Pham Ngoc Anh Tung founded FoodMap. As Tung shared: "So that I can be free in time, free in space, free in thought!", Tung wants to do what he wants, but cannot find it elsewhere.
Tung's start-up tools include only technological knowledge - especially automation, which he is trained in and extremely passionate about - plus a deep understanding of Vietnamese and world agriculture. Previously, Tung had the opportunity to participate deeply in many Vietnamese supply chains and traveled to 14 countries in 3 years, serving as Director of Cau Dat Farm at the age of 25.
The current FoodMap has taken shape and his ideas and dreams have partly come true. Pham Ngoc Anh Tung, from an automation talent after winning many robotics competitions during his student days at Ho Chi Minh City Polytechnic, has now become a mature businessman. The road was still thousands of miles away, but at least he knew his direction was completely correct.
He confided: "I have a dream: how to sell Vietnamese agricultural products at high value.
Previously, in Cau Dat, when we exported tea to Taiwan. At that time, exporting oolong tea to Taiwan was only 9 to 10 USD/kg, but if considered, Cau Dat also exported at a higher price than other farms. However, Taiwan exports to the US for more than 100 USD/kg, which means our price is probably less than 1/10 of the Taiwanese price.
I am a person who lives on a tea hill, so I understand how hard it is for tea farmers. Every morning they have to get up from 4 to 5 a.m. to harvest tea by picking small buds and the weather. Cau Dat is very harsh, sometimes cold and rainy.
Then, it takes 36 consecutive hours to turn those tea buds into premium oolong tea balls. The process here is to work 28 to 36 hours continuously without a break, which means working day and night. Not to mention, there are times when the weather is bad and the tea batches are not of good quality, so traders do not buy them. All risks must be borne by producers and farmers.
I truly understand the hardship of farmers making oolong tea, but they only enjoy very little of the commercial value that traders sell. The reason is that I don't have a brand, I can't bring stories to create my own brand of Vietnamese tea for direct markets like the US - Europe. Even many Taiwanese people don't know that Vietnam can make oolong tea. No one knows!
And I will always sell products under the brand of another country or company that is not Vietnamese. I don't want that to continue forever!
Because the whole world is flat, the technologies and tools are ready for Vietnamese people to have direct access to places of consumption. I believe these conditions have the ability to help Vietnam build Vietnamese brands to reach demanding markets without the need for intermediaries.
This is considered the highest goal - FoodMap's mission: How to change this situation in some way? How to convey this message to young startups or businesses in the agricultural industry? How to make more Vietnamese brands go abroad?
In the next few years, along with the goal of bringing Vietnamese agricultural products - specialties to the throne in the domestic market, FoodMap will also focus on supporting local and Vietnamese businesses to export around the world."
