OSen Ngoc Mai was again accused of "singing pagodas", disrespecting musicians, the owner spoke out

In recent days, public opinion continues to stir around the copyright story of the song Soul Hoang between the author - Musician Hoang Bao and OSen Ngoc Mai. Recently, insiders have officially spoken.

Accordingly, the story began when OSen Ngoc Mai used the song Wild Soul in a contest at The Masked Singer season 1, contributing to her success. After the show, Ngoc Mai used this song to perform in 1 night of tea room music and 1 night of singing music for businesses.

The song's creator – musician Hoang Bao – in a post on 8/12 – shared that he wrote an email to the Vietnam Music Copyright Protection Center, reflecting on issues related to copyright and the use of Ngoc Mai's song Soul Hoang.

Gone for a while, at the beginning of the new year 2024, NS Hoang Bao continues to post a status line expressing his discontent: "... I still silently struggle for myself: from 'cleaning up' someone else's garbage, from programs to illegally trade my products without warning. And there are many consequences that they have left for themselves..." Although not naming names, netizens understand that he is referring to the copyright of the song Soul Hoang as well as OSen Ngoc Mai's use of his composition outside the scope of the Masked Singer program.

Then on the afternoon of January 4, in an interview with a media unit, Ngoc Mai said that she had observed this incident for more than 1 month and decided to speak out. Ngoc Mai said that after the show, she performed the song "Soul Wild" at 2 places: a tea room and a business show. Her side also said that the obligation to pay royalties is not her responsibility but belongs to the other 2 units.

On the evening of January 4, Hoang Bao countered. He opened the letter and said: "... For nearly a year, Hoang Bao has tried contact methods (emails, messages, comments) with stakeholders (singer Ngoc Mai's crew, Time Crossing program) but has not received a satisfactory response; Therefore, I am forced to use social networks (this Facebook page) to voice my wishes. With this post, Hoang Bao wishes to say once and for all what he has been trying to solve. Please note that this has been an exhausting journey that has taken a toll on my mental health for a long time; You can consider when reading."

At the beginning of the incident, Hoang Bao said: "Around October 2020, Hoang Bao composed the song Soul Wild as a 'negative' version of the previous Sunset work. Soul Wild was lucky to be popular and the Masked Singer program contacted Hoang Bao (around 06/2022) to ask for permission to use this work for contestants to perform within the scope of the show. At this time, Hoang Bao was in the process of signing a contract to authorize the exploitation of the Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection, so the program worked with VCPMC (on behalf of Hoang Bao). After the show ended, OSen winner / singer Ngoc Mai continued to perform "Soul Wild" but did not perform according to the original composition nor did she respond to the author when asked to work."

The first incident related to Ngoc Mai crew was shared by Hoang Bao as follows: "After becoming the champion of CSMN (season 1), singer Ngoc Mai contacted Hoang Bao by phone with the desire to continue singing Soul Wild outside the scope of the program. At that time, because she had been exposed to articles about the case of singer Ngoc Mai who has been working for a long time but is still not well known, with the goodwill to bless her career, Hoang Bao 'gifted' her once to use Soul Wild (meaning: no need to pay royalty fees for the first time). After that phone call, Hoang Bao also actively contacted singer Ngoc Mai via email to ask her about the copyright to use Soul Hoang (not counting the first time as mentioned above). In this email, Hoang Bao stated that "All the above information is agreed and Bao will make a spider contract" but singer Ngoc Mai's crew has never responded to this email of Hoang Bao. However, in the screenshot message (if we can believe this is not a collage) sent from nick Ngoc Huyen Do after the status on January 1, 2024 on Hoang Bao page, the account 'Le Nhu Ngoc Mai' stated that it has never contacted Hoang Bao.

In addition to the problem as mentioned above, singer Ngoc Mai often sings the wrong composition."

The 2nd story relates to Ngoc Mai's performance at the Crossroads of Time show. The program side in the credits did not include Hoang Bao's name nor hashtag the musician's name, which made the musician frustrated and was in the process of working with the program representative.

With this one word, Hoang Bao wished: "First, to name the author of Soul Wild in the media products that have been and will be published. Each work is the work of the creator and Hoang Bao believes that artistic labor process must be recognized.
