The new female rector of "Harvard Vietnam": As a former student, holding many key positions

On the morning of July 2, Foreign Trade University held a ceremony to announce the decision to recognize the new rector of the university for Assoc. Prof. The decision was signed by Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son, effective from July 1.

Ms. Huong accepted the position of principal in place of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Anh Tuan retired from management. She is the 9th rector of Foreign Trade University, since its establishment in 1960 and the 2nd female rector of the university. Before that, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Mo, Rector of Foreign Trade University from 1998 to 2005.

At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Training sent congratulations to teachers, students, students and especially Associate Professors. Dr. Pham Thu Huong - New Rector of the University. Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son affirmed: "The Ministry of Education and Training has set many expectations and believes in Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thu Huong - an adult from this school, has a solid professional background, is well-trained domestically and internationally, has rich practical experience and a strong spirit of innovation. With new responsibilities, I believe that he will continue to inherit the core values of the University, promote the achievements that have been made, and work with the leadership and all lecturers and students to build Foreign Trade University to develop to a new level - solid in terms of expertise, breakthrough in thinking, integration in vision".

The Deputy Minister also recognized and praised the outstanding contributions of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Anh Tuan - Former Rector of Foreign Trade University in particular and higher education in general during the past time.

ASS. TS. Le Thi Thu Thuy - Chairwoman of the University Council sent congratulations to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thu Huong, at the same time, expressed his belief that in the new working position, Assoc. 30 years ago, when I entered Foreign Trade University at the age of 18, every day that passed I felt that this was the place where I could reflect my value, be free with passion and personality, express my emotions when I was happy, when sad, when angry, or when hurt. Foreign Trade has given me the confidence and desire to explore the world in search of bright golden sunshine where I can burn my dreams and I have truly felt that Foreign Trade is home, a place to return.

30 years later, when I was the new Rector of Foreign Trade University, I had the aspiration to be able to accompany the University's pedagogical team to implement the development strategy to make Foreign Trade University one of the leading universities in Asia. a place that respects academic freedom, encourages creative research, develops training models associated with promoting thinking and mastery of the context, overcoming prejudices about educational values, nurturing dreams and ambitions towards positive impact and sustainable development.

I was really touched when I listened to the students' sharing about the feeling of no longer being inferior to their own situation, about the experiences that they never believed they could do before, about the confidence on the journey to conquer their dreams and about the desire to share and help the disadvantaged when coming to Foreign Trade. According to Over time, I have also felt more and more deeply about the educational ideals that I want to pursue when I am attached to Foreign Trade through the simple joys shared by my colleagues after every class hour, when getting meaningful research results or participating in programs for the community and the endless pride of teachers before the maturity of learners.

Arousing excellence and promoting innovative thinking, training bravery and nurturing a sense of responsibility, accepting diversity and enhancing harmony are the unique values of Foreign Trade that have been formed during 65 years of development. At Foreign Trade, we all strive every day to be able to look at our own limitations frankly, not afraid to share to find solutions and accompany to get to the bottom of the problem together. Therefore, no matter who you are, where you come from, once you come to Foreign Trade, you will be able to clearly feel the cohesion, openness and inclusiveness of the Foreign Trade community and will feel a part of it.

As the first autonomous school in the higher education system, we have learned to overcome ourselves and dare to take on new challenges. Dr. Pham Thu Huong was born in 1977, is an alumnus of Course 34 majoring in Foreign Economics of Foreign Trade University, graduated with a master's degree in economics at Aarhus University (Denmark), received a doctorate in economics at Foreign Trade University. Ms. Pham Thu Huong has participated in the training program for young leaders for higher education institutions and leaders women's religion in higher education in Germany.

Before being appointed as Rector of Foreign Trade University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thu Huong holds the position of Vice Rector in charge of formal and postgraduate university training, international cooperation, business cooperation, innovation and entrepreneurship, student affairs, etc. and a person who contributes to shaping the principle of "basic, open and flexible" in the development of training programs; a systemic approach in building and developing the University's open and innovative education ecosystem and entrepreneurship".

She is also the initiator of the training model associated with the career development of learners at Foreign Trade University, including programs to improve the capacity of learners through 4 groups "We, The Icebreakers", "We, The Explorers", "We, The Innovators" and "We, The Ambassadors". at the same time, thoroughly apply the "campus in campus" model to promote the effective exploitation of resources from business cooperation and international cooperation for the development of higher education.

With 30 years of working with Foreign Trade University since she was a student, she has also experienced key positions of the University such as Head of the Professional Department of the Vietnam - Japan Human Resource Development Institute (VJCC), Head of Planning - Finance Department, Head of Training Management Department and participated in coordination, directing many international projects on higher education.
