Meritorious Artist Tuan Phong's real name is Nguyen Tuan Phong, born in 1952 in Hanoi. He won the Silver Medal at the Hanoi Youth Singing Contest and the Second Prize at the National Professional Music and Dance Festival in 1981.
The artist is famous for performing heroic songs such as: Hello, Lam Hong girl, Ba Dinh sunshine, I am the driver, Vietnam standing posture... He also left his mark with a series of lyrical songs such as: Late autumn love poem, Autumn sound, Where is that person now, Afternoon longing...
Meritorious Artist Tuan Phong used to work at the Bong Sen Song and Dance Troupe, then held the position of Deputy Head of the Department and Lecturer of Vocal Music at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music. In 1996, singer Tuan Phong was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist. The artist is also one of the familiar voices reading poetry on Ho Chi Minh City Television.
According to information from his family, Meritorious Artist Tuan Phong passed away on November 10 after a period of treatment, at the age of 73. Previously, artist Tuan Phong suffered from sequelae after a stroke, his health declined due to underlying diseases, and he was bedridden for many years.
The family is currently arranging the funeral for artist Tuan Phong. The coffin will be placed at the Funeral Home of Thong Nhat Hospital (Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City). The funeral will take place at 5:00 p.m. and the viewing will take place at 6:00 p.m. on November 10. The memorial service will be held on the morning of November 13, followed by cremation at Binh Hung Hoa.
The passing of artist Tuan Phong has left friends, students and audiences in mourning. Singer Duong Quoc Hung (Sao Mai Diem Hen 2006) wrote on his personal page: "I know that life, old age, sickness and death come to us, but hearing the news makes me extremely sad. Memories, recollections and teachings of the teacher come back to my mind." Actor Viet Anh sent his condolences: "Mourning a singer who I was fascinated by when I was young. My sincere condolences to his family."
Singer Ta Minh Tam said: "The passing of artist Tuan Phong is a loss and sadness for the brothers of Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music. Everyone loves Mr. Phong. He is a gentle, sociable person, a generous artist. He is always cheerful and friendly with his brothers.
Due to health problems, we have not seen each other for a long time. For nearly 10 years, he has not attended Conservatory meetings due to health reasons. His passing is a sorrow for the Conservatory brothers."
Ms. Nguyen My Hanh - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music - said that she, on behalf of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, along with lecturers and students of the Conservatory's vocal department, went to the funeral home of Thong Nhat Hospital to pay their respects and express condolences to the family. "Everyone mourned and remembered the late artist Tuan Phong as a teacher and colleague who was dedicated to his profession," Ms. Nguyen My Hanh added.
Singer, Meritorious Artist Tuan Phong was born in 1952 in Hanoi. Meritorious Artist Tuan Phong is the eldest child in a family of 5 siblings. His father works at the National Library of Vietnam and is very passionate about literature and art.
Passionate about singing since childhood, with a beautiful voice, in 1968, Tuan Phong participated in the Hanoi Youth Singing Contest and won a silver medal with the song The sound of the liberation gong, the sound of the victory gong by musician Hoang Van. The initial success helped Tuan Phong become more confident in his abilities and actively participate in student cultural activities.
In 1972, Tuan Phong decided to pursue a professional artistic career in the Southern People's Song and Dance Troupe. Tuan Phong was welcomed not only because of his promising voice, but also because of his enthusiasm and determination to volunteer to go to the South to serve on the battlefield.
During the war years, his voice resounded in many fierce battlefields. He became famous for performing the songs Hello, Lam Hong Girl, I'm the Driver, Vietnam's Standing Position...
From 1978 to 1984, artist Tuan Phong studied vocal music at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music. After graduating, he was retained as a lecturer at the school. During this time, he won second prize at the 1981 National Professional Music and Dance Festival with the song "Front Footprints" and continued to achieve success with second prize at the 1988 Chamber Music Competition.
While teaching, he also diligently searches for new songs to experiment with. In every position, Tuan Phong is dedicated and devoted to music.
