NSUT Minh Thu: 25 years of the journey of "standing still and singing", advising women not to become single mothers

Referring to Minh Thu, music lovers remember the voices of songs branded Pho Duc Phuong and Phu Quang. She said she couldn't help but feel relieved that she had traveled 25 years on this journey.

Distinguished artist Minh Thu was born in 1978 in Hanoi. In her singing career, she won the Third Prize of the Hanoi Television Singing Festival (1988), the Third Prize (no First Prize) of Singing on the Voice of Vietnam Radio (1999), the First Prize of Hanoi Young Voice (2001); Silver Medal of the Indochina Triad Festival (2007); Gold Medal of ASEAN Nations Show (2013); Gold Medal of the National Professional Performance Festival (2015). In September 2019, Minh Thu was awarded the title of Elite Artist.

Minh Thu entered the profession quite early. Since childhood, she has actively participated in the singing movements of Hanoi students, at the age of 15 she is already a young vocalist who is noticed. In 1998, Minh Thu won the third prize of the Hanoi TV Singing Festival while still a student at the Military University of Culture and Arts. The following year she won the Third Prize (without the First Prize) of the Voice of Vietnam Radio Singing Contest, then in 2001 the First Prize of Hanoi Young Voice.

Graduating from the Military University of Culture and Arts in 1999, the beautiful young singer possesses an "hourglass" appearance, a luxurious deep Mezzo-Alto voice temporarily leaving Hanoi to enter Ho Chi Minh City to embark on a career, but it is a completely different commitment. She was accepted by the Vietnam Light Music Troupe right after graduation, which means that from here her singing career is attached to the traditional limelight.

But the life of a singer who has made a mark like Minh Thu is not simply two words of destiny. Reason told her to go higher, which is the reason that motivated Minh Thu to enter the Directing Department of Hanoi University of Theater and Cinema in the surprise of her friends.

In 2005, when the directing course was nearing its end, Minh Thu got married. Unfortunately, the marriage did not last long, and when the son was 2 months old, the couple broke up. She had to study while raising children.

Talking about the time spent alone with her young children in the middle of the city, Minh Thu also couldn't help but recover, she said: "Every stage has its own difficulties. In general, from the time he was born until he entered puberty, I was always on the lookout. When she was a child, I was fortunate to have parents to take care of me. Staying with happy parents, but renting a mother-of-one house is miserable. But my parents' house was far from the center where I used to sing teahouses. There are days when the wind drizzles are terribly cold, the editor who calls still rushes to the street, even runs in places. Cartesian was several hundred thousand. No one assisted in picking up and dropping off, and the sick had to go on their own. Thinking back, I feel submissive. It's true that when I first had children, I had tremendous energy to overcome hardships."

The singer also shared that she does not want anyone to fall into a passive situation as a single mother like her. Minh Thu said that whether women intend to be single mothers or not, they should still take care of themselves economically, when they have some money to at least stay at home for a year to raise children - in case of separation difficulties, when they break down, they can still take the initiative.

In 2006, his debut album Song of Adventure was released. At that time, friends used to tease the Hanoi singer who has a deep voice and often wears fanciful black clothes, saying: "In a year, you can do four things at the same time: get married, divorce, have children and make CDs."

After completing formal training in directing, Minh Thu returned to his singing career and won many impressive achievements. In 2014, Minh Thu opened the opening night of Hue Festival with the song "Song of the God of Lost Birds" by musician Pho Duc Phuong. She appeared on the open stage with her own beauty, brilliant like a Lac bird, wistful, smooth, probing a voice like mountains like rivers stretching majestic...

Witnessing Minh Thu making an album with his songs, musician Pho Duc Phuong realized the difference in this singer. He understood Minh Thu's "extremely arduous, extremely serious but also very passionate artistic labor". "I witnessed once in Minh Thu's studio crying because the journey to the top of art was too hard, like climbing a mountain when I tripped over a rock," said musician Pho Duc Phuong, and he concluded: "Minh Thu is a strong personality, if you do it, you can do it, you can do it to death."

In the midst of many modern music trends, Minh Thu is still passionate about nurturing her passion for singing Phu Quang music and she thinks it is a charm. Thu said that when she participated in a show, Phu Quang discovered that she had her own voice and invited: "Make a record of mine." Minh Thu confessed: "I don't have any money." Unexpectedly, musician Phu Quang also answered very truthfully: "If you don't have money, I will lend it."

So in early 2016, she embarked on a new record after a period of serious thought and preparation. Unfortunately, as soon as the project was formed and invited collaborators, there was lightning news: Minh Thu had a laryngeal tumor, a terrifying obsession for anyone who follows a singing career. The lump grows between the vocal cords so that the nightingale can be completely muted.

But God didn't deprive her of faith. After the surgery, she sang again and fortunately, the Mezzo-Alto voice did not seem to disappear, even hiding many deep levels, hiding the triumph of the singing woman who had gone through many ups and downs.

Minh Thu album sang Phu Quang with 10 songs Hanoi on return, Back to the old town, Autumn hides you, Sad rock... was born thus. And recently, in the spring days of 2020, Minh Thu is preparing to release a new record Lips next to lips with 14 songs: The Last Leaf, Pink Rain, Autumn, Glass Sunshine, Let's Love Each Other ...

Still Minh Thu, beautiful and charming and full of distractions, impressive not inferior to any face of showbiz.
